Re: Imperial space port

Here's those other pictures I mentioned. I've started on the walkway, but it's too wide, and doesn't line up well with the loading bay platform. So I'm gonna trim that down quite a bit. You can see also the beginnings of some of the other parapets and roof railings.
A bit more modelling to the pink foam is needed still. I'm going to hot glue some chunks back on the roof at the very top, some bits that look like they've fallen to the parapets, and some of the other unfinished corners also need more foam. I also need to do some steps. This is where I could use some ideas or does anyone know where I can buy 28mm steps?
Apart from the steps, some work on the base, some more grating patterned material to the floors like I've done on the walkway and a lift to the sky pad itself, it's done.... Then it's paint time. Colour scheme, I'm thinking of just copying theirs tbh. What you think?

Looking great nige... but not one to bring down for a meetup methinks
KInG wrote:The last one shows the size on a standard 6x4 table. It's looking rather large. I'm thinking that realistically it can only be used for a themed game, of which bane has been putting a few ideas down for an imperial rescue of the systems commander via shuttle as the alien foe approach to eat him!!!

Its looking great, but i think that its fine for normal games as well as themed games.
KInG wrote:Where is 5th ed book AW?

Well he either means the battle for macgragge 4th ed starter set where you had one guy running around waiting to be rescued.. or he means the battle missions book published during the time of 5th ed, which had lots of start in the middle of the table your about to get mullered scenarios..
(of course there were other scenarios in the big fat (non tourney rule) books but I never had a look at those, it could be in those too  )
Barely even lurking..

If I remember correctly, the mission was from a dwarf bat rep.

Looking great, king!

For stone/concrete steps, poly cieling tiles are jolly.
For metal, I would go for a single thin length of wood, 45 degree cuts for top of and bottom of steps.
Cut zigzag steps into the "top" (or attach small 45 degree triangular spacers) then glue balsa wood footplates, cover them in plasticard metal decking.

You'll end up with a norrow support beam, with wider metal steps.

Wasn't the mission done alongside the release of the Last Chancer models?

This is Ace!

When you come to paint it, cover the foam in Slightly water down PVA. 2 coats to make sure. Will make a good surface for paint to adhere to. Or a more fun way. Sand based masinary paint/plaster. :)

Realy do like this.

Another way to cover the foam and not have to have a sand finish is to coat it with 2 coats of drywall primer. At least that's what it's called over here.

It's a water based flat primer that's fairly thin in consistency. Lets it get absorbed easily, covers well, and the flat finish gives a good "bite" for your color coat. After 2 coats, you could use a spray primer if you want. We all know that the solvent in most spray primers will eat away the foam, and you wouldn't want that to happen to all your intricate rock carvings!

I thought he did?

Isn't that the infamous "Pink Granite" quarried in Salisbury, North Carolina?

Though the shipping from Nc to the UK must have busted the bank, eh?

So thats why the new/old failcast Sisters of Battle are so expensive. His import duty for pink rock flowed thro the system and made GW to be be super dumb with there prices.

Of course this is just mere speculation on conspiracy's.

Mr King can you make me a foam Thunderawk?

foam board thunderhawk mmmmm interesting :)

the steps need to be metal looking I think. Not sure if they are shown in GWs picture, but they want to be industrial looking, with metal grating as ruffian said for the treads. I was hoping there was some terrain maker who had something already made I could slip in. But if I make them, I was thinking of using the plasticard 'I' profiles I've used elsewhere on the model and just have them run down with the treads made separately in between. The 45 degree triangle pieces with make assembly easier as suggested. But its the handrail that has me stumped. The railing uprights need to be pointing straight up and not running at an angles on the side of the steps, so my plastic handrails are no good. :(

Why put handrails on at all?

You mean to tell me an imperial marine holding a heavy bolter is going to bother holding onto a handrail?

Remember..."In the grim darkness of the far future, there are no handrails."

For industrial steps you could buy some car mesh to form the main part of the step then you'd just need to sit a border on top of it, which you could just neatly trim out of cereal packet card.

For hand rails I would have thought some metal rod/doweling cut to equal lengths for the vertical part, then just use a longer piece as a handrail and make little green stuff balls to connect it to the spindles to the handrail (if the stairs are curved then the metal rod should easily bend to the shape if you choose the right thickness and material.
