Malek builds a Cityscape (pic heavy)

For members to post long running threads about projects they are working on

Well since I have already started.

Here is a ventilation fan from a West Virginia coal mine.

If you want I will ask my dad for some more photos. He is a coal miner so I am sure I can get plenty. LOL

Judging by the ladder leaning against the wall, that thing is huge (I'm guessing a 6' ladder). More pics would be helpful, bu the fan enclosures I have are the square ones, so I'll be using that kind of shape. But now I have an idea of the size I need to make this thing! Many thanks!

ive always wanted some ventilation fans, but i dont think im up to scratchbuilding them. i guess i will have to check out some of the PC parts shops around town. :)

im still working on tonights building (getting the plasticard windows to fit the windowframes was a real b*tch), but while you wait, here is a little teaser (pic of the parts i am using, prior to when i started cleaning them):

Here is something for building fans.

It is over on TerraGenesis. It is a great site on how to build really cheap terrain out of garbage.

If anyone is a member over there I am too. My screen name is "Ben". I am so imaginative. :D

Nice link Ben, thanks.
I tried to join terragenesis, but I never get the validation. Strange because any other forums I join it goes through with no problem. Great site though.

Nice tim, keep up with the updates!

I realy liked the hirstarts pipes stuff, but can't afford such loveliness at the mo.

Anybody interested in going halves and some "commuting?"

I like the idea of the octagonal building, just could never get my mind around all the angles! Are you going to use sprues to fill all the gaps? Or do you have another plan in mind?

as you can see, i used Greenstuff to fill the gaps (simulating weld-lines, as its a metal structure).

all i have left to do now is give the sand on the roof another coat of PVA glue (in the morning) to seal it all on, and then base it along with the other building.

thoughts? :?:

cheers :)

Nicely done. I plan to build an octagonal part for my defense laser. It is nice see how you did yours. It will be helpful when I get around to building mine.

The greenstuff is a nice touch, it fills the gaps nicely!
Instead of giving the roof a coat of just PVA, you might want to mix glue and your base color paint about 75/25 (75 paint and 25 glue). This will help to seal the base material as well as give you a head start on the base color coat. I used it on my gameboard and it works really well.

glad to help! be sure to post pics when its built. :)

thanks for the suggestion, but i think i will stick to my usual method: im not going to be painted these until all of them are built (ive not even considered colour schemes yet), and using just watered PVA will be simpler for now too (as opposed to mixing paint and glue).

ive got a busy day tomorrow, as my parents are coming over for a visit. im going to try to get something done regardless, even if its just a stand-alone barricade.

im undecided which building to tackle next: the big church (which will be 8" wide x 12" long x 7" tall, ruined) or a small storage building (4" x 4" x 3", sealed). the storage building will be an experiment in using the wall sections back-to-front (so what is normally the internal detail is on the outside), but im not 100% cetain which wall sections to use for the rear wall (should it have double doors on both sides? should it be designed to be butted up to the edge of the board, to avoid the issue?). i shall sleep on it. :)

and on that note, i better get to bed: its 3AM again.

cheers

 I guess it's not the size that matters, eh? I have a ruined cathedral section which is about 12" wide, 18" long and 15" tall to the top of the belltower (it is 5 levels tall with the belltower being 2 levels high). I have also built pews for inside it using "craft sticks" which are just popcicle sticks which haven't been used for popcicles. I really need to get aroung to painting my buildings. Maybe I will do that tomorrow. :) I could do with the break from painting Brettoinian Knights. *mutters* Bloody Brets. Uh, disregard that last bit. ;)

Thats not lazy :P ....1 day I'll get round to using bits of broken PC heat sink (fan to size and proportion (wires attached) can fit most tubes etc.. Mr6 has already started creating a terrain board (I think only 1ft2 to start) just out of all the dead computers that pass through our elephant graveyards of PC ness. :D
Barely even lurking..

:P

bear in mind that this is all just for a 4 foot board! besides, the church im building will be big enough for an entire Combat Patrol to hole up inside it!

anyway, its update time. :D

ive given the roof of the octagonal building a coat of watered down PVA glue to seal on the sand, and it is now drying. ive also built a makeshift barricade (the idea being that defenders dragged whatever they could find out onto the street and propped it up using a lamp post).

still needs basing, but aside from that its finished. :)
