Juat what does Wilkos sell? 8O

@ruffian4 - Nice looking models! Does the glue on the tape hold it that well or do you have to do something else to reinforce the bond? I've used the fiberglass stuff to tape drywall seams, and the glue just holds it in place temporarily, not strong enough for a permanant bond.

Cool looking place. Looks like a modelers paradise!
I prowl around the local home improvement store, but my wife is always on the lookout for useful stuff when she hits the dollar stores.

TW I will have to look for some photos. I built it back in 2005 for a game store at the University. Football season is coming up so if I get down for a game I will try to pop in for a photo if nothing else.

Cheers!
I got mine second hand and it is "tacky" rather that "sticky" (though when new???).

When I made the fences, I just laid the scrim tape over the balsa supports, painted it with watered down pva and weighted it down.
It's pretty solid.

I'll have to try that. I tried making my fences with some nylon window screen, after a half dozen attempts with different glues, I ended up using this all purpose stuff. It dried glossy, was "stringy" coming out of the tube, and looked like crap when done. I have some fiberglass drywall tape in the garage, will try it later. Thanks for the info. Cheers!

EDIT: Wow, my 600th post!

Sorted!

Make sure you don't weigh it down with something that will stick to it. I put metallic food cotainers on it iirc.

That would work. I usually use wax paper to keep glue from sticking to the weight. I even have an old glass shelf (tempered to be shatter resistant) that I do glue-ups on. Keeps pieces from sticking to the work surface!

ive been kinda busy with the competition entry (which is now mostly built - just waiting for it to dry before i can base it and add details) and the sludge beast (which is now just a little PVA glue away from being ready to be undercoated), so this thread has been on pause. i have laid out all the pieces to make the church, and ive just taken some pics.

here is the ground floor:

Image

the outside edge of the floor tiles is the footprint of the building (although those floor tiles will go around the edge of the 1st floor). as you can see, its 14" long by 8" wide. :)

the empty space inside the floor tiles will be where the 2nd floor will go:

Image

this is 10" long by 4" wide (so there is 2" gap all around), and has its own partial roof. this makes the whole thing 6" tall (7" if you include the low wall around the roof).

this building will use every single flying buttress from the city box! 8O 8)

im hoping to start cleaning pieces in the 2nd half of this week. :)

thoughts? cheers

~ Tim
