Wouldn't that make it a "rack of ruin"? 8)

Ooooooh!

Matt - Dunno how I missed this thread before - Excellent work pal - Our clubs got loadsa great buildings in the same vein, but somehow we never seem to get around to paining them. Have to say the paint and grass really bring them to life. :D
Hmmm
(Looks at gaming cupboard with glint in eye....)

Cheers Herne - yep, they look good unpainted but you are right, a little work really does bring them to life.

An evening spent doing a load in batches is a worthwhile investment. I have a big tub of magnolia (B&Q value range) and some blackboard paint and mix up the highlight colours on a piece of old cardboard and drybrush in a production line. I've used GW washes then to add colour to various areas (e.g. statues) - needs 2-3 washes though to pick up a strong enough colour to be worth it.

I use 3 different flocks/grasses in random patches.

I use a few different flocks and grasses to. It helps to break up the edge of the base.

I also agree with Matt that the small amount of time spent painting the terrain is well worth it in terms of gaming experience! Think of it as the defference between hiding a unit behind a hill, or behind a chunk of pink styrofoam!

They all look great Matt. Now I'll have to get busy and finish up a few things I've been working on!

Matt, when you use Araldite to glue the terrain to the MDF, do you just put one strip of adhesive on the terrain and the hardener on the MDF? Or do you mix them together beforehand? What do you use to mix them?

I also Araldite'd my terrain to the wood it sits on. I mixed it separately... whether I applied it to the wood or the terrain before sticking was determined by the practical view of the bottom of the terrain, but as a preference I put it on the wood.

I mix it first then put it on the building and push it on to the mdf.

What do you mix it with? Just a thin strip of wood? Or something else?

My pack came with a spatula, but a strip of cereal box card is sufficient in my experience (for a while, until it becomes too floppy......)

Usually comes with a litle plastic spatula as bara says. I mix in an old blister pack.

Cleaning the spatula is a bit difficult! A small build up of dried glue does't matter as you aren't doing precision gluing with it. You can cut it off once it's dry anyway with a craft knife if you really need to (make sure it IS dry though!)

When I couldn't find the spatula, in the past I've used a coffee stirer.

Noticed on the Q2 Project Log for All that I said I should do some of the terrain pieces I have lying around. Here's a set of resin tyre/sand-bag barricades I picked up at Salute last year. Will varnish them and take a better picture tomorrow morning.

OK, sprayed them with purity seal this morning

Here they are all done. Terminator is to show scale.

The sandbag sections can be used on their own or in any combination including the full line

And in terms of true LOS

I got them from this range. I have the straight, the ends and the set of 4.
