Matt's CoD/building terrain (now just terrain really)

Postby mattjgilbert » Wed Jan 30, 2008 1:59 pm

Copied from another thread...

I've recently had a go at actually building all the CoD buildings that have been waiting for well over a year. Here are the WIP shots so far.

Small ruined chapel

Ruined factory

Fortified administration building

Large ruin

Basic ruin

The tank/pipes resting off the ground in the middle of the large ruin will be dripping into the crater below... I'll use some ink-coloured water effects for that. I'll post more pics as I get them all painted up.

The basis for the administration building was the Pegasus Gothic building set (http://www.thehobbybox.biz/prodtype.asp ... istory=cat) plus a load of plasticard and foam card.

I also see from that link they are doing a ruin set now and sandbags/walls...might have to invest :)

I have the techno-bridge set but not assembled it yet (need to figure out a cunning plan for a river/canal).

I still have a load of plastic not assembled. I've cut out some small bases for mini-ruin areas.

Any other thoughts on a project I could do to add to the collection? Something a bit ambitious for me to mull over?

I like the cracks in the foam core on the administration building. I look forward to seeing the building painted as well.

Well those were done last week. This week nothing has changed (yet). I need to finish the base on the chapel first and make the other small bits up. Then I'll think about painting :)

I have made, quite literally, half a ton of sandbags out of (early learning centre) air drying clay. It's cheap and dead easy. A few barrels/boxes and bits of corrugated card and you have barricades galore.

They all look great Matt! I like the large ruin. I might have to steal the idea and do a two-tile ruin for my modular stuff. 8)
What is the grey rock on the bases? It looks like kitty litter (I use it on some if my terrain) but i can't be sure.
The idea for the dripping pipes is good too. I used the Vallejo water effects on my marsh boards and was very pleased with the results. I highly recommend it. The cost wasn't too bad either IIRC.
Keep up the good work!

The bulk of the sand is just that...GW (yeah I know) gravel/sand mix. I've also got some of the GW modelling slate in patches around the bases. The larger rock pile and craters are from Daemonscape (http://www.daemonscape.com/) - look in the terrain section, it's all good stuff and cheap resin compared to FW!

Most stuff which is grey (or gray!) has been sprayed with Roughcoat prior to painting. e.g. the administation building has been coated in roughcoat.

I like the look of it. Nice site too! Unfortunately, it's on the wrong side of the Atlantic for me .
Here in the states, I use this place (http://www.thewarstore.net/) same kind of deal as your place, good terrain and supplies and reasonable prices. They sell GW products as well and do offer a discount.
Can't wait to see your painted pieces! War store has the large gothic building set from Pegasus for $23.99 US (12.18 pounds or 16.15 euro, hope I have the conversion correct) does this sound like a good price to you?

Yeah it sounds good - look at the size of building it made for that price!

The plastic is harder than the stuff GW make and there is not much variation between the components but I just adapted it with the extra stuff as you can see.

I roughcoated the finished buildings (still not based the chapel yet). Will post pics soon.

Loking good, can't wait to see them painted. Now I have to get off my lazy butt and get the rest of my building done!
