Matt's Undead

Postby mattjgilbert » Sun May 01, 2011 3:42 pm

Last year I picked up a Vampire Counts army from BigJim. Since then I've added some of the Mantic undead range to it and will continue to do so, mixing the models from both ranges together to make up my units.

To make sure they all look the same, I'll be repainting the Vampire Counts stuff alongside their Mantic equivalents. I'll also be dipping the whole army, like I did with my Daemons.

First up, the ghouls. About a 3rd of these are Mantic models. So far I've:

1. Sprayed them all with Halfords grey primer
2. Drybrushed them with Ghostly grey
3. Added colour to weapons, cloth etc.
4. Dipped them

They are currently drying in the sun. Once done I'll paint details like eyes etc. and do the bases.

Looking good.

I'll be very interested to see them ranked up - think the variety between GW and Mantic will make them look very animated.

I've already got 140 Ghouls in my collection, so won't be getting any Mantic ones even though I was tempted - went with the skeletons and Revenants instead.

Are you planning to play them using Fantasy 8th Edition or KoW?

KoW

We've given up on WHFB since we started on KoW. It's so much faster and uncluttered. We started to find playing WHFB a real chore, which is a shame.

Grass is done. I'll give it 30 minutes and then spray them up.

So I think I'll do the zombies in batches of 15. I'm going to try to wash the skin to get the colours but paint the clothing. Hopefully that will give different finishes to the two and the skin will look thinner.

So first of all - a drybrush with ghostly grey as with the ghouls

and then washes on the skin
Image

some green, some yellow/brown and the odd few left grey.

Will try and get some more done tomorrow night but then I'm off to Prague so unable to continue until next weekend :(

And so shall the industrious among the common throng be made aware of their peril, for I shall go forth tomorrow and do the work of the righteous and the good and lay waste to those that offend mine eyes.

For, verily shall I pluck out thine eyes and brake thine fingers and smite thine eyes that are so smug and contented in mine own view, that thou shalt be as chaff to me and be as an insult to that that is pure and proper to be put unto the sword and driven from mine own sight into the regions of the impure and ungodly.

About half done now

Image

well... before dipping, and details, and basing, a varnishing!

I'll try and get another 15 done tomorrow.

I need to get another 15 mantic zombies to try and have a full (30) mantic zombie regiment (for a 1000 point painting challenge over on the mantic fanatics site).

I've been dividing the batches up into grey-, brown- and green-skinned zombies. Grey are just left drybrushed. Brown get 2 washes, Ogryn Flesh and then Gryphonne Sepia. The green ones get a wash of Thraka green and then another thinned down one.

I've finished the next grey bunch ready for dipping

The rest have had their skin washed only so far

Can only look on in bitter and twisted wonderment and wish I could get some stuff done.
Keep up the good work undead matt.
