Morty's 40k / WHFB Daemons

Postby mortiferum » Tue Mar 31, 2009 8:23 pm

The entire army is being bought 2nd hand, stripped if needed and repainted.

Nurgle models were the priority (Epidemius lists in 40K and Fantasy) - anything else I tend to purchase as and when I find a good deal / price for them.

Heres what I've managed to get painted so far, in chronological order:

Posted before, but for completeness I've included again.

Experimenting with the washes resulted in these...

Picked these up cheap and they were already base coated in blue

More experimenting with the washes...

and lastly...

First time using greenstuff to model (flames on the backs) rather than just filling in gaps. Not sure I like them but they are very colourful...Ghoulishly, Horrific Horrors!

Thats all for now

Morty

Edit: Its amazing how photograghing things shows you all the imperfections1 Just noticed the massive mold line on the Flamer and that I've forgotten to repaint and tidy the base rims.

Those are looking great, especially with those bases.

That's an impressive and scary number of flamers!

They all do look great Morty. I second Matt's appreciation of the bases.
TBH, I thought the mold line on the flamer was the way it was supposed to look! The paint job is that good :!:
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the force. :)

Thanks for the support and kind words :D Glad you like the bases, easy to do if a little time consuming. Makes the models 'pop' and I'm hoping it'll eventually tie in all the various models from each of the four Gods into a cohesive looking force.

About the Ghoul / Horror conversions.
They are indeed the crypt ghoul models. Its not an original idea - there's many others having done and executed this much better than mine.

The 'eye' is simply the neck (heads weren't glued on). Trimmed all the 'bones' and 'severed limbs' from the ghouls. A few of the ghouls have hair / fur already scuplted on their backs / arms - most of them don't :(.

Used greenstuff to cover up a lot of the messy trimmed models by 'trying' to sculpt flames over these areas. Anyone have a good tutorial on greenstuffing flames?

12 in total. I hear / read they are really good in Fantasy  :D . Not so bad in 40K either - all having flamer templates - reminds me of 2nd edition (?) Tyranid Gargoyles who also all had flamer template weapons. I might pick up a couple of the new sculpts to represent the 'Pyrocasters'.

In 40K they can fire in two different mode IIRC.

Either as Wind of Chaos (4+ to wound anything, no saves flamer)
or Warpfire S4 AP4 Assault 3

When they work they're awesome, but i've started taking only minimum sized units as 1. if they drop in the right place only three can flame due to other unit members blocking and 2. they won't survive more than one turn on the field, even with more members, as everybody will blow seven shades out of them asap.
Turns them into a 1 shot unit. Though 105 pts of flamers killing a 250pt unit of sternguard or terminators isn't a bad trade.

There's this one. Looks to be a pretty simple technique. Let me know if it helps.

It does help very much! Just the comment regarding supergluing the greenstuff in place first would of been enough help for me! 8O
I was originally trying to 'pull' the putty into 'flame shapes' initially but all the greenstuff would just pull away from the model - can't think why now I wouldn't of used superglue to afix to model first!
Thanks once again :D
