Project log: W.O.C by Herne (updtd w/ forsaken bloodletters)

Postby Herne » Sat Mar 07, 2009 11:26 pm

I have never collected an army from new. Every army I have collected I have bought lots of second hand parts, been donated, trawled E-bay etc. For this army I decided that I wanted to buy the latest range of models and put together an army I considered to be "New." Having always wanted to collect Chaos I thought the new book was a perfect time to begin. Biting the bullet and spending all the money I purchased everything I needed at a discounted price via our good freinds at GF. I then spent weeks gluing it all together. From here I intend paint the entire army over the next months. I will update it infrequently as I complete things. I hope peope enjoy it enough to gain a following. Well - Here goes:

The box bonanza!

I couldn't believe how much plastic was left over:

Undivided

I have now completed the first unit - 16 Warriors of chaos undivided, with shields and HW. I wanted to use metallics for the shields and for the armour. The basing shows frozen earth and snow as I want that 'from the North' look for the army.

Looking good Herne. This will be an impressive army when finished.
Must be tough to breathe after "going for your lungs" with all those purchases.
Seriously, great looking shading and highlighting, keep up the good work!

Excellent. Bases work really well.
Oh dear, it's going to be shameful comparing my vampires to this lot at the meet up!

Very nice Herne. I'm slowly putting a WoC army together myself so it'll be good to see how this one turns out. It should look awesome altogether on the table.

To be fair - you'd be suprised what a kidney goes for on E-bay! 8O  It did cost a lot, but I've sold a lot of my Empire army and together with the prize I won in that comp a while back and the discounts I got from GF over GW prices I just about broke even. Well chuffed!

Cheers - I look forward to seeing your VC - I've got them myself, and have hundreds of painted skellies, but never really got around to painting the rest. Not sure wether I'll have enough WOC painted by August though! This lot alone took 2 weeks at 2 to 3 hours per night most nights.

Not sure wether GW do, but I put all these into our recycling bin so the council are doing my bit for the environment for me.....I hope. (Remembers rumours of shoddy councils dumpin in landfills.... )

We'll have to compare notes! (And possibly bloody battleaxes and scars?! )

Trying to decide what to do next - have lots of choices, but the most appealing that I can't choose between are: - Character model, another unit of warriors for Khorne or Nurgle or possible some Knights

I think GW do it still (some folks say shops are obliged to take any spru off you for their 100% recycling of wastes policy) but dooks dizzo pointed to this on another forum..might come in handy don't know haven't tried (money for old rope?)

I wonder what the % wastage is compared to what you cut off and use? With the CoD stuff you use way more than you throw away but those are the exception I think. I could probably have made another 3 or 4 armies with the amount of waste plastic I've binned. Recycling schemes are the "right" thing to do just like that site says. Good link.

On topic WoC-wise... I had an ebay blitz to get a load of the original realms of chaos champions range to add to the ones I already had. I also picked up some older warriors etc. I just need to finish my daemons and then pack out the WoC with some fancy new stuff. It'll be a while before I begin doing that though but it's on the cards.

I must admit the old Realms of Chaos range were my fave minis ever - that's why always wanted to do the army. I have about 20 of them from the different gods and intend to use them as my chosen, as the nice new GW ones are so expensive! The only problem is I bought the new command and the models are about a third as tall again as the ROC ones which were 25mm. Not too woried though as they are so nice they make up for height with quality!

I just decided to get a good mix of everything. The army so far consists of:

48 x warriors (4 command groups so up to 4 units.)
2 x 20 marauders. (1 unit is beastmen who will count as, as I always liked the models and always liked the idea of the beastmen being driven forward by the warriors.)
1 x unit of forsaken. (Using a unit of bloodletters as also like the idea of daemons as part of the mortal army - which you can't do anymore.)
1 x unit of chosen. (Using the old RoC models in addition to the new command unit.)
3 x 5 knights
2 x 10 warhounds
2 x 5 marauder horsemen
1 x chariot
Several ogres
Several trolls
2 x chaos spawn
1 x shaggoth
1 x giant
1 x hellcannon
1 x warshrine - scratch built this from an old empire war-waggon and am well pleased - will upload pics at some point soon.

Character wise there is:

2 x Tzeentchian disc rider
2 x wizard on foot (1 is the old albion dark emissary)
Several champions on foot (Nurgle, Slaanesh, Khorne etc.)
The wonderful Khorne Lord on jugger
The slaanesh lord on serpent
Nurgle lord on steed
Lord on steed (the new one)
Archaon

Way more than I'm likely to play in any game, but I'm tackling this as a painting project as well as a playable force and I like having lot's of options in order to vary the lists I take.

Good Grief! - It's gonna take me forever to paint this lot!

So - whaddya wanna see next? Still can't decide what to paint next so I thought I'd see what you want to see done.....

Personally, I'd like to see either a group of knights or the hellcannon.
