Project log: Warmachine!

Postby Herne » Sun Oct 04, 2009 11:06 am

Recently my club has found ourselves getting into Warmachine, and I have been suckered into these beautiful models. :D I tend to choose my armies more on what I want to paint, than any tactical accumen, and these Khadoran models captured my imagination. Soon I'd spent a couple of hundred pounds (ouch!) on my force and have now started painting. I'll add more as I paint them....
Comments always welcome....

Bahhhh, Humbug and wonderfully painted.

Love some of the minis to this game, but never found local players thankfully (like I need a new game system).

Great job. Have you looked at the new Retribution line?

Great models. I also played Khador back in the day. Working on a Privateer army now using the Pirate of the Broken Coast rules.

What is great about this game is unlike GW, they DO appear to want to fix errors in the rules by releasing FAQs.
The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.

Thanks guys.

Thanks. Have looked at the retribution ones and there are some great models in the range. It's also Privateers first forray into plastics, so 1 box will produce several 'jacks. Of course, that still means you need to buy several boxes....

We're beginning to explore Hordes too. Quite fancy the troll-bloods myself...

Here's my new pride and joy. Survived his first game and everything! :D

This model has a rule called bulldoze that allows him to push around pretty much anything else in the game for fun. Had to get the heavy industrial look into it, with a little weathering and battle damage for good measure. Slightly cleaner red this one, as it is less often seen on the battlefield, unlike the older destroyers and kodiaks.

With the first elven 'jack you could use magnets and get three for 1.

Naturally you still have to field multiple 'jacks for higher point games.

It'll be interesting to see how they weigh up in a game against the other factions. Not going to get into them myself - too much money. :-(

I haven't tried them yet but a couple of those around here have tried them. They seem to be very powerful. Just wait until a couple of killer combos are discovered...

I'm still trying to get my head around Khadoran tactics yet - I keep hearing how hard they are, but intil I can unlock a few tricks myself I guess i'll just keep getting beat, or just about pulling off a victory. Can't say I've had any resounding victories yet - but that's what I lvoe about the game - most gams have been close fought, and a simple missed assault corridor or stat trick can win or lose you the game.

A lot of that comes from that second die. 2d6 plus to reach a target does not depend on luck like 1d6 and count successes does.

Generally Khador are just brutes that you can't knock down so you can use the 'jacks to hold up the enemy while your gunline wears them out has been effective. Depends on who you fight though.

Must admit I like a solid line of jacks with a warcaster to provide a centre, then am playing with the additional troops. Am using a lot of merc troops in addition to the khadoran ones. The main tack I have taken is to build on what Khador do well - Toughness and raw aggression. Manhunters hit hard, while man-o-war and Drakhun (a fantastic model incidentally) are really hard.
