Ptd Rapier minis - Scorpion Warrior and PUMPKIN THROWER!

Postby Herne » Sat May 02, 2009 1:00 pm

Hi all - Recently I was contacted by fellow forum user Estarriol and asked if I would paint some mini's for Rapier Miniatures Although honoured to be asked I normally say no to commissions as I have limited time and so many of my own mini's to paint. I was rather taken by these witches though and agreed. They remind me of certain popular characters in Terry Pratchetts books, and I couldn't resist putting my own story into them too. (Look closely at the mother witch with the cauldron. There's a hand sticking out of the cauldron so I painted the bloodstained handprint on the apron. Then I gave her the unfortunate victims ruby slippers!

These are the first mini's I've painted for Rapier, and I hope they live up to expectation. Black is nortoriously hard to paint, and also as hard to photograph well as I discovered! Here's the minis:

My own Rapier minis (Pumpkin Men & Scarecrows) arrived this week - I am looking forward to painting them (the details are great) and using them in Mordheim. :D

@ estarriol - are you going to host Herne's pic on your site too?

cheers :)

Great job Herne! The single tooth on the old hag witch is a nice touch too! (Kind of ereeminds me of my ex! :lol: )
Black is hard to paint well, and you've done it up very well.
Estarriol should be very happy with the results!

Do like "snaggle tooth", but personal fave, is hand on hip with broom "so you really do want me to bust your ass with this here broom?"

Totally off topic, but...

@herne. I'm 85.7% certain it was you that the Stargod and I complimented on your eldar jetbikes with their "bone" canopies at the get-together last year.

If it was you, any hope of a tutorial?
If not, apologies to the real artiste (same request!).

I think I have a tutorial thread I did on another site. I'll try and track it down and port it over for you over the next couple of days. :wink:

<BACK ON TOPIC>
Glad people are liking them. painting for yourself is great, and you can always take the pressure of people not liking them, but when it's for someone else, espescially someone whose hoping your work will help sell your models, it's a bit more nerve wracking!

Here we go. Apologies for picture quality.
<img src="http://www.ageofstrife.com/albums/Angelwing/Untitled_1_copy.jpg">

The model seems to have a short fat pointing finger. I'm not sure if this is a cast error. I'd also like to admit this is the first model I've painted since some guard stuff for the meet up last august, and the first time ever I have used static grass! :oops:

*edit. I'm going to have another go at a pic when the light is better (If I wake up in time...).

Yes she does have a short fat finger pointing.

Nice paint work, very similar to the scheme that my Witch is being painted as well!. Just one note, at the top of her legs there should be a bit of flesh between the suspenders showing...

I was tempted, but didn't paint the flesh at the top of the leg as it doesn't fit the character who I bought the model to represent.

Ok folks - here is my first scorpion man - the second piece of work I've done for Rapier. See what you think. Have to say the model is great - it fits together nicely and the legs and body are rather creepily bug like. I did a bit of research on colours before I started work and tried to go for a natural palette to match the real marking of one type of scorpion.
