After reading Morty's project log I was inspired to go looking for patterns. I found a pattern for a Mk 1 Land Raider and got all nostalgic - it was one of my favourite kits when I started. Here are some work in progress photos



Thanks Dan for reference photos. There's still some more track to add, las cannons and transmission linkage. I've got to wait for my local model shop to open in the morning so I can get more plasticard rods. C&c appreciated.

I can really appreciate the amount of effort / time gone into this. As a fellow scratchbuilder I'm always interested in hearing and discovering new ideas to try out and I've a few questions...

How did you cut the plasticard tubes on the tracks, any problems with getting a equal / straight cut?
How did you transfer the templates to the plasticard, print directly, manually traced or another method?
Hole punch for circular cuts, any ideas on how to cut varying diametered circles, smaller than those found on a A4 paper hole punch?
What plasticard thickness are you using, the tracks appear to be thinner than the rest and in one piece?
Any thoughts on using your vacumn setup for making the track sections (or other sections) in future?
How do you intend to do the weapons, i'm interested to see how these turn out?
What do you intend to scratchbuild next?

the plasticard tube for tracks is laborius, I marked it into 13mm lengths then marked lines down for halving the tubes. razor sawed into lengths then split with a scalpel. one or two went squiffy but got shaved down.
I found an excelent product for transfering plans onto plasticard, Paperwave Tracedown. Its a graphite carbon paper. put it between the printed plan and the plasticard then draw round plans. It leaves a really good impression that can be wiped off when you've cut out the peices.
Its made from .030" (0.75mm). the tracks are two peices as the sheets are not long enough to go all the way round. I cut out v sections from the edge, scored the corners then glued them on.
las cannons will probably be box girder sections with tubing. heavy bolters may well come off IG heavy weapons sprues.
I certainly intend on trying the vacuform on tracks. anything to avoid making them by hand each time.
I saw a draper hole punch yesterday at hobbycraft that did smaller holes. I might get one in the near future for riveting.
The next projects in the pile are a hot rod kit to be converted into a trukk, ork warbikes, a new head for my stompa and an old school battlewagon. the battle wagon i will try and put together plans for to share.

That looks amazing General_Lee. Once painted up I bet no-one will be able to tell the difference with an original one.

Thats what I'm aiming for. Once its finished i'm going to take it down to GW and see if they can spot the difference

I've got a few tiny details still to do like cables on the sides, handles on the doors. I can't decide whether to add the drive shaft on the underside or scenic base it.

hmm, i dont personnaly do scenic bases for tanks, u going to use it in games or just display?

It does look dam good tho mate, Well Done! wish I had these skills, hopefuly soon tho once i get my bits
