Some kind of building...

Postby TimmyPOW » Fri Jan 15, 2010 2:08 pm

I've been meaning to make some large terrain pieces for a while and Dave Andrews' Outpost XIII in this month's White Dwarf gave me a few ideas.
Not currently owning an Imperial Bastion kit (let alone several) and most definitely feeling the pinch after Christmas it looks like a budget build is on the cards. Luckily the aforementioned festive period produces a decent enough array of materials (or what other people would call rubbish).
Components are:
A small cardboard box with a lid
A Mini Cheddars drum
Some tiny pots that were filled with chocolate
Some thin card
Some thicker card
Some of that annoying plastic coated wire binding you get in the boxes for toys
A couple of thing that i don't know what to call
Some slimline cigarette filters
and a bitz box

No photos as of yet because my trusty as ever phone is on the fritz but hopefully will have something soon.

Now i'v just got to figure out how to turn this crap into something...

Good luck.
If you can, try to post some WIP shots. Good way for the rest of us to learn some new techniques.

Sounds fun. Pictures of the crap would be great if you are looking for suggestions (once you are able).

So, we're about halfway through the build. Would be slightly further along but haven't had much time what with a demaning baby and the dreaded 3 year old managed to get hold of it so some repairs have had to be made...
The basic structure is done, lots of details are needed.

This will act as (and hopefully look like) a hatchway onto the tower. I have a comms relay built to stick on top (sorry no photo) and was going to cut lots of the cigarette filters in half lengthways to provide battlements around the edge.

Not having a dreadnought to hand I had to take a stab at making this entrance big enough. Turns out, I only just managed. I could do with some ideas on how to fashion a door.

The aquila is on the main firing platform (or terrace, if you're an estate agent), cut out of some thin card to give it a little definition. Ultimately this should be sitting in the midst of a small lawn.

Card for the door should work. How about a shape like the rhino top hatch ( http://hughesd.co.uk/hangar50/content/f ... hatch1.gif ) so the "teeth" join together in the middle. Add raised detail and definition with more card and bits from the bits box.
