Why bolts? Would decent epoxy resin not work? You know, 24 hour setting araldite or something.

ok, got the bolts for the feet, all i need to do now is get the pose sorted out, drill through the feet into the ankles, secure the bolts, drill the base, bolt it in and make sure its stable

then i can finish painting the legs and the base!

now, i realised i have a fully painted canopy going to waste! its going to be repurposed in different colours, so i saw no harm in this:

ImageImageImage

left side is sepia

right side is devlan mud

top is a thinned out mix of both

on the right side, i also dropped a little mig rust from the two bolts, gotta say, im not that impressed with the stuff!

so whats the verdict? do any of these pass the test?

I like the left side the best.
The sepia really sets off the gold trim whereas the devlan mud looks too similar to the gold and kind of gets lost.

For the bolts, why not go with a single bolt for each foot? Remove some of the bottom of the socket and recess a nut in there, with a hole down through the bottom of the foot. Then the base have holes up from underneath with recesses so you can put the bolts up through the base and screw into the feet. Should be solid, and won't ruin the toes.

When I built my Chaos warhound I pinned every toe - through the centre of rotation of the joints, and then through the backs of the toes into the foot. I ended up using 1mm carbon fibre rod as the local model shop didn't have any metal in stock at the time, ended up being a great solution as the surface of the carbon fibre is much better for the glue to adhere to and prevent any movement.

Image Image

I ended up using 2mm carbon fibre rod to pin the rest of the model too, bar the waist - originally I had 10mm x 2mm magnets in the waist, but after the glue failed on one of them I ended up fitting a short piece of aluminimum tubing to the waist on the legs, and drilled a matching hole in the body, it's much more secure and still allows rotation. I haven't put a base on mine as it's really well balanced on it's feet, hasn't fallen over yet :)

And for rust, in the past I've used a really thinned down Graveyard Earth, runs quite nicely and I was happy with the result.

ive pinned the legs into the pose it'll take, sadly it wont take the weight of the lucius upper body, fingers crossed that once the toes are on, it'll take the mars weight, or im totally buggered

also the bolts i picked up to secure it to the battle scape, arent sodding long enough! they JUST reach through the foot, so the feet now have a hole in them that is just now decorative >_>

the further i get into using the battlescape with the titan on top, the less and less likely it seems it'll work, so right now, im seriously considering scrapping the battlescape base idea, and just having it freestanding like the lucius

im seriously not impressed >_>

Is the Lucius torso that much heavier than the Mars? I thought the legs wouldn't take the weight, but mine has the front foot with all the weight on the toes and the rear with the weight on the front toes, and it has no problem with the weight at all. If you have some support under the foot pad then it should be able to take a lot more weight. I also never got around to using epoxy glue on mine, it's just superglue - amazing it hasn't come apart! Oh, the other thing I did was drill 3 pins through the ankle ball joint into the foot as the ankles were clearly going to be under a lot of stress.

the mars upper body is still in pieces, hence why i used the lucius body, and i knew that because its so much heavier, if it took the weight of that, the mars would be no problem

im gonna stick the toes on (didnt want to till i'd painted them) and see if it takes the weight then

for the knees, i did what i did with the lucius, drilled through the bolts around the edge and pinned with paper clips :P

then it'll be plain basic super glue to stick it all together, lucius just had superglue, and it's held together quite nicely :)

Titans are fun and easy to build. The Lucius was the 1st titan I built when I was about 25. Nice kit.
Yes its top heavy but the feet do hold it well.
(A note to be added.) Do the feet first and fully complete it to the desired position. And then work your way up. If memory serves me right it dose say this on the build sheet. This solves the problems countless people have when test fitting the upper body at a later date.

Ow n Super Glue on a model this big is bad with out pins. Zpoxy resin is the best. Takes a little longer to dry but is well worth it. Hope this helps.

From a veteran of 4 Warhound titans and 1 Reaver. (What a kit)

ok this thing is really pissing me off now, and i swear to the throne, im close to scrapping the battlescape completely

which is a shame, cause it would really have made the thing go like ''wow!'' :P

ImageImage

the right foot (over the rhino) is a little further back than the bolt hole, but thats pretty much how it would be on there

the legs are free standing too, toes arent stuck on, but they did give out under the lucius upper body

and as you can see, they're just pinned together at the moment, so pose can change to something a bit more stable if need be

i'll keep working at it

The first pic makes it look like it leans back. Is that so it'll stand level without the base? This is going to cause you grief with the torso with the base as it looks like it'll lean too far back so you have all the weight on the back leg, and I'm guessing that's the one that's giving out at the knees.

Could you put the battlescape on a slanted baseboard so that the weight is evenly distributed between the two legs?

With my Mars the weight is taken on just 5 toes - 4 on the front foot, and 1 on the rear; the pic below was the original toe position, but I adjusted the rear foot so that the centre toe sat flat on the ground to give it a little more stability. I wouldn't want to risk all the weight on one leg though, even if it was supported under the foot pad rather than the toes.

so

my third mars titan canopy arrived not 5 minutes ago

and by the time i finish typing this, i'll have forge worlds number ready to go to get another, since this one is in worse shape than the last one!

---

funny thing is, it was sent to the customer service guy before me, he checked it, saw it was flashed to hell and back, could see through the canopy and that the rims on the eyes were almost non existant (they're THAT thin), and that where it was thin on the top, there was 3 lovely little air bubbles all joined together by a nice little crack

his response? once you paint over it, it'll be fine

i did not fork out that much money for ''it'll be fine''

so number 4 is on the way to me

Hopefully, 4th time is the charm!

Mayber their mold has reached the end of its useful life?

its the same spot as the last one, and the eye rims are just as bad

so maybe

but i know its my last one, if the next one is anywhere near as bad as these last two, i'll make a complaint, and fix the damn thing myself

is it really too much to ask that i get what i pay for? that being a decent mold?

my patience with forge is gone, everything ive had from them lately has needed replacements, so much for completing my army of contemptors :P
