True-scale 'Movie' Marines

Postby jlong05 » Mon Apr 20, 2009 12:44 am

OK,

So I have always wanted to make a set of 'movie' marines from the US WD300. I have even saved that issue for the longest time so as to have the rules in print. :)

Anyway, I recently attended Adepticon and one of the giveaways was the Armorcast Cinematic Effects muzzle flash bits. I ended up getting a few 'extra' freebie packs so I had enough for 10 Marines.

So my next idea was, why not make these marines 'larger than life' like in the movies. Hence the idea of doing my own True scale marines.

So here is my first marine done up. Not everything is glued, but it does give an idea. He is to be my Sergeant as I modeled him with the Chainsword.

Also, here is a shot with an assembled AoBR marine for scale purposes.

So, I think I have a good start, but I am going to need to start picking up some additional items(Mainly Terminator Arms, a couple more bodies and a few sets of legs). Also, I am planning to make these a Deathwatch team style so I am in desperate need of 9+ of the Terminator Inquisition pads(Like the close up shot I have). If anyone has them extra, please let me know!

Let me know what you all think. I am going to try to keep this project log going as I complete more models. Also, any suggestions on making them look like normal Marines would be appreciated. I did catch the shoulder pad ridge detail. So I know to do that from now on.

Off to a very good start jlong! I like the detail work on the shoulder pads.
Only one slight critique, the sergeant is firing his weapon into the ground.
Is it possible to pick his right arm up a little bit? I think it would look a little better. If you didn't have the muzzle flash, it would look ok, kind of like he is bringing the weapon up, but the flash makes it look like he is in the act of firing.
Other than that, again looks very nice. Can't wait to see more.

Yeah. I noticed that as well. I do plan to lift the firing angle so it looks better. Thanks for the comments.

Very nice.

I might have a couple of I shoulder pads, I'll have to dig around in my unbuilt sprues box though as I haven't put any of my plastic termies together yet.

Spack,

If you got them going spare that would be awesome. I think it is officially listed as the Deathwatch shoulder pad (which conveniently is what I am using it for).

OK. Well I have noticed my first mistake. I modeled my Sergeant with a Bolter and he should have a Bolt Pistol. So I have taken his weapon back off and am working on ideas for the BP.

Question, given that these are larger than life marines, what do you think about using the Plastic(or even the Metal) Heavy Bolter weapon as the Bolters for my standard troops?

Basically the Movie list is:
Sergeant with Chainsword/Bolt Pistol(Thinking of using a Stormbolter for this)
Dude with Bolter(HBolter in my case)
6x Space Marines with Bolter(Same as above)
Space Marine with Flamer(Working on coming up with a larger looking flamer)
Space Marine with Missile Launcher(same as above, want a bigger launcher for him also)

Then I have a transport(probably going to do the Razorback as the Lascannons it gets are tooo awesome to pass up)

So do you think the HBolters will work well? This then would lend a new probably, anyone have any HBolters and Backpacks going spare where you would be interested in a trade?

Just bear in mind that a razorback only has a transport capacity of 6 models.
If you are going for a full squad with these, you are over the limit.

Ah, but you can take a Razorback for a squad of 10 in C:SM, you just can't put them in it. And the Movie Marines rules don't stipulate you can only take if you have 6 or fewer Marines :)

And beyond that, the Movie Marine list is exempt from the petty issues anyway. All models are considered independent units and the transports can transport as many 'unit's as will normally fit, however models may embark and disembark as normal without requiring ALL models to do the same.

Concerning weapon size, GW personal weapons tend to be oversized anyway, so they will fit better with a truescale marine.

Good point. I think I may try one with a Heavy Bolter though to see how it will look. We shall see. I am working on the body now, so Hopefully I will have some pics uploaded this weekend. :)
