TW's Dark Eldar

Postby timewizard » Tue Jan 25, 2011 12:56 pm

I've taken the plunge as it were and started a Dark Eldar force.
Looking to get them painted up to good tabletop standard.
My painting skills are ok, but could be better (hunter?).
So here's the start of it. I wanted to do a red theme, tired of blue marines!
I started by priming with a dark red primer then a wash of Badab black.
Image
Then I drybrushed and highlighted with blood red.
Image
The eyes are stonewall grey and I used mithril silver for the blade.
I've also got a unit of wyches primed and ready to go.
Image
And a unit of Kabalite warriors (which could double as trueborn). These are primed and the weapons have a basecoat of brazen brass.
Image
Still working on the Hellions themselves, but here are their skyboards primed and washed.
Image
Hopefully within the next couple of weeks I'll be able to get a few 750 point games in to try them out and start getting some lists made.

The black wash on the red looks great.

Coming along nice mate.
Do like the subdued red.

Can you still get brazen brass over there, or is it just old paint?
I had to go to coat d'arms for mine.

Thanks, I was trying to get an "old dried blood" color for the models. Had tried a black wash on a brighter red but I didn't like how it came out.

 He might just be a 'bigger' man than me! I noticed it after I finished him, can't decide whether to tone him down a bit, or leave him as is. It is "Dark" Eldar after all!
He is from the Raider kit and I just picked him as a test model to try out the scheme on.

Thanks, I think for tabletop quality it will work ok. I wanted a scheme that I could "assembly line" apply to the army. Still have a bit of detail work to do, but not that bad.

I haven't ordered it for awhile. It might be an old bottle. I can find out if my supplier still carries any if you're interested.

I did the eyes with Vallejo Game color 'Ghost Grey'. (Yes, Matt, with an 'e'! :D )I thought the brass would be a good basecoat for the ranged weapons and mithril silver for the blades and chains. Haven't really decided on a color for the agonizer as yet. Still have to figure out how to do the flesh tones on the Wyches. Was thinking maybe a ghost grey basecoat with a blue or purple light wash to put some color in the recesses. Will have to do up a test model.

Not as yet. Hoping to get a few "test" 750 point games in either this weekend or early next week.
Target adversaries are Necron and Space Marines (go figure!)

Was this the inspiration?

I did manage to get some brass (coat d'arms used to supply gw with it, if I remember correctly). Cheers!
