40k terrain suggestions

Ok guys with 40k making a bit of a comeback at the club, and club funds being in a healthy position at the moment. Chris, Leigh and myself have decided to invest in some new terrain.
We don't want to go out and buy just anything, so we want to ask the regular 40k players what they would like to see on their battlefields.
So what you guys want?

Well now that every bit of 40k terrain has a rule in the core rule book. The official kits now have a quite a bit of game effect these days, so I'm all up for some GW stuff.

Well, broken record time :) Mantics Deadzone terrain is pretty customisable. And not a bad price.

Can be an alternative to GW if you want something different.

Those stencils look good
I like the modular stuff as its easy to put together and doesn't take a lot of painting.
Im happy to go with the official 40k stuff but im not sure what it is?
Can you give us some examples as im struggling to find anything in the rulebook. (Other than the landing pad and bastions which we have but I assume as a you buy them as part of your army they would be part of your force.

if you have the 6th edition rule book theres some in there but most of the rules is in Escalation I think or the Apcolaypse book they just released...but personally I'd say the modular Mantic stuff (while difficult to put together) would actually make for some pretty good urban fights in 40k

Yeah try looking in the 7th edition rule book then not 6th! The rule book has rules for every terrain set GW produces (P184-191).

Shrine of the Aquila box set gives re-roll to moral for imperial armies and hatred Imperium to others.

Manufactorum box set allows models who's weapons get hot to re-roll fail armour saves.

Basilica Administratum box set let the a unit who identifies an objective a re-roll on the Mysterious Objective table.

Sanctum Imperialis box set grants Adamantium Will and night vision.

Battlescape box set grants cover regardless of line of sight obscured.

Crashed Imperial Aquila Lander box set has a lot of rules from blowing up to granting extra victory points.

Twisted Copse (just woods don't worry about it...)

Moonscape set gives 6+ cover and a +2 to go to ground saves....

The problem with the Mantic stuff (apart from looking really nasty) is it can be a little to ambiguous as to what each building is and it then become a bit of a fight to who wants what item to be what. This can lead to a one sided forced advantage much more regular than pot luck of what was in the terrain box. At the moment people are just ignoring the terrain rule altogether as the current stuff is very unsuitable for the task.

Sorry I was looking at 6th edition rulebook. I must remember to put that in the attic with my other old books. Got it now.

Would you be happy with one of each or would you like to have the same options for different tables?

@ Darklighter - If you got the GW sets and lined the sprues up, I could not tell the difference between the Sanctum, the Basilica, or the Manufactorum. One has a pipe on the wall, and one has big doors. I think that covers it ;). I suppose it's what you are used to.
The Mantic stuff is meant to be very generic in design, as they are, supposedly, the "easy ship" colonial buildings - but a little thought and invention with the basic sets can lead to some really nice designs.

The thing I like about the Mantic stuff is that it is very modular and can be built in a variety of ways. The clips can be a pain, but if you are gluing the terrain together, it's not an issue. The new expansion sprues can allow even more variety in building shapes - which is nice.

This explains why you are happy with the quality of Matic products then....

I guess that depends on your budget really... The more the better for variety really. Also a few kits per building really help make them much more visually appealing. Obviously not with every build otherwise the cost goes up really quickly but the odd few really help to add impact to the tables. Fantasy movement trays also make excellent bases and flooring footprints.

If it's the work you guys are worried about I'd be more than happy help with it. Both in building and painting of the sets.

@ DL - ooh, you sound a little riled. If I offended, I'm sorry - it certainly wasn't my intent. It's just a personal opinion. The 40K universe has a distinct style which I feel has little variety in the buildings GW make. Mantic have followed their own style, which also has little diversity. The ability to build it quickly is a bonus. I wouldn't say one is better or worse than the other, but in terms of aesthetics - I prefer Mantics offering. I'm certainly not going to mock you for having a different opinion.

My main worry is how easily the GW kits are damaged compared to the resin buildings we have.
We have all seen how terrain gets forced into the boxes when packing away rather than taking the time to make sure its packed away carefully.

Obviously that's going to be a concern with any new terrain. The resin stuff is a nice looking set but not very practical (scale wise) for 40k. It forces quite a few rules lapses for ease of use that are fast becoming unspoken house rules.

Having spoken with a few people, it seems to me that while new terrain is needed, its the variety lf terrain that is wanted and if you ask me we need more urban terrain and I don't think GW stuff has that variety. Plus (personally speaking) I don't want to play a battle and then spend 5 mins checking rules of every terrain piece that any unit comes within 6 inches of it, which is what GW seems to be all about. Yes I know the GW guys here will say "Then don't use the rules" which is what I would do anyway. But js anyone getting slightly bored of fighting in a countryside, abandoned ruins or training base? Because I said it before I'd love to see more urban warfare

I do agree with john an more urban style but in all fatness if we're going to play 40k may aswell do it right and play to the rules and terrain of 40k
