Arena Combat

Just a thought who would be interested in a 40k Arena Tournament?
Each Player has 2 characters, either 2 Special Characters, 1 Special Character and 1 Normal character worth up to 200-250 (we'll work out how much but this depends on number of participants) if a participant has no Special Characters, they can "purchase special rules" for an extra 50-75 points per rule (again we'll work out cost)
Each player will face off against each other in a round robin format in a
After the Round Robin, seeds will be established and the Knockout will begin with the overall Winner declared Supreme Ruler of the Universe
Characters will face off in a 1v1 situation in an enclosed Arena, no terrain, no cover, no place to hide, using standard rules and phases (NO Psyker Powers or Weapons that cause Instant Death/Removed from Play/transform because wheres the fun in that?? and yes that includes Vortex/Squigs and Boons that cause Spawndom/Daemonhood) with the winner scoring a killing blow.
To avoid a 1 turn kill each players will have a "last gasp" wound, if they roll a 3+ Feel no Pain (not cumulitive) showing their resolve to be the best in the universe
If one person still has their 2 characters in the Semis they will be forced to fight it out,
if 2 players have their characters in the Semis then they will fight it out in a special 2v2 final with only one standing

Let me know if you have any thoughts or interests, planning on making it happen on the 18th to coincide with the buffet

Should do it so everyone vs everyone with one model they can purchase with special rules and do random close combat weapons and random gun weapon somi.e. D6 and you get 1 useless hammer and 6 Titan sword (flesh bane and ap2) and with guns d6 1 you get spud gun St 1 ap- and 6 battle cannon St 10 ap2 and gets hot and +

Some can get round that because of chracter rules (big Nids, Daemon Princes etc..)

I still think you should keep it the way you have it john as it gives everyone a fair and even chance to take on a special character that may never be faced in normal battles as it's an arena battle not a normal battle so no shooting just close combat but I agree no instant death weapons and the special character shouldn't have no more than 4 wounds

How about all characters (special and norm) have 3 wounds regardless of who they are.
Also on the point of normal characters, 250 points is your limit, that includes initial cost AND upgrades.

I agree with you there john it's doesn't matter how many wounds your character has ie your character could have 20 wounds but because it is a arena combat the wounds are limited to 3 so everyone has a chance to take the character out of the running and everyone has a chance to be able to be a winner and it makes it fair on everyone

The problem is if you are going to limit wounds then you are going to have to work out the point reduction for that. As characters (special or not) are point costed on there statlines and abilities not one or the other. And without intimate knowledge of every model available that could be more trouble than it's worth to achieve.

That may be so nik but with the right dice roll a normal 3 wound leader could take down a 4 wound monster in one turn HOWEVER to balance things out 3 wounds would be simpler
