Permitted Armies
Your army must be no more than 1850 points.
All current Codexes produced and on sale to the public prior to 3rd of Aug 2013, will be legal to draw from. Please be up to date with the most current printing of the Codex or rules you are using. Please note that army lists from Forgeworld books are not permitted. Players can choose their list from a standard force organisation chart, which means that they can take one fortification and one allied detachment as per the standard rules.
The only additional limit we are placing to ensure the maximum enjoyment for the maximum number of people is that we are imposing a limit of no more than two flyers per army. We have imposed this as many armies still have limited access to anti aircraft weaponry and will struggle against six Vendettas or nine Necron flyers!
Forgeworld Units
Each army is permitted one Forgeworld unit (i.e. not from a standard codex), which must fit into a standard force organisation chart. Please ensure that you bring the relevant and most recent rules with you! Telling your opponent, “Don’t worry, I know what my bizarre Forgeworld monster does in the game”, without backing it up with rules will be heavily frowned upon!
Missions and Deployment
The missions played will be from the 6th edition Warhammer 40,000 rulebook and will be announced before each game.
Players will be drawn randomly for the first round, then based on the swiss system. If possible, you will not play members of the same club!
Scoring system:
Victory or Defeat!
Winning a game, as per the standard mission rules in the
40K rulebook gains you 20 points, whilst a loss gets you zero points. A draw gives 10 points each
Margin of Destruction
Calculate the Army Points Destroyed by each player and work out the difference. The player that has the Points Destroyed difference in their favour will receive a bonus score and the other player receives a deduction, as shown below. An explanation of how these are calculated is included below. Note that this can result in the loser of the game gaining extra tournament points!

Army Points Destroyed – Definition
Many long time gamers will remember when ‘Victory Points’ referred to the number of points you gained for destroying your enemy’s army. So, if you wiped out a Space Tactical Squad, you gained 170 victory points. Many tournaments (including this one) still use this mechanism to aid scoring tournament points, even though the current
40K rulebook doesn’t include these rules. Confusingly, 6th edition now refers to the points gained for deciding victory as victory points (e.g. 3 victory points for claiming an objective). We will now refer to the old style points for destroying the enemy as “Army Points Destroyed”. They are scored in exactly the same way as they used to be, but this is repeated below for clarity.
Army Points Destroyed are gained for destroying or damaging enemy units. The points you gain are always equal to the points cost of that unit, including upgrades. So, for destroying a Space Marine Rhino with a dozer blade, you would gain 40 points (35 points for the Rhino and 5 points for the upgrade). The methods of gaining points are detailed below.
Independent characters and monstrous creatures:
• Killing, fleeing, removing from play or otherwise absent from the board (e.g. Saint Celestine that hasn’t yet resurrected) – Full Points
• Wounding – Half Points
Units:
(note Space Marine units that have divided into combat squads are calculated based on each unit)
• Wiped out, fleeing or otherwise off the board - Full Points
• Wiping out at least half the models in the unit - Half Points
Vehicles:
• Destroying (either wrecked or exploded) or otherwise removed from the board - Full Points
• Immobilised - Half Points
Fortifications:
• Destroying where possible (For Aegis Lines, this means destroying the gun, if one is present. If no gun is present, no points can be gained) or otherwise removed from the board - Full Points
Secret Missions:
At the start of the tournament, players will receive a set of three secret objectives. Each player will randomly pick one of these secret objectives for each game and can only use each objective once. This will be done after all deployments, but before rolling to seize the initiative. Your Secret Objective should obviously be kept secret from your opponent during the game, and should not be revealed until either the objective is completed or the game has finished.
There are a total of 5 bonus points per game available for achieving your secret objective. These will be added to your tournament points for the game. If both players achieve their Secret Objective, each player receives 5 bonus tournament points. In the event of a wipe out result or one player concedes bonus points will only be award if the winner achieved their Secret Objective before the game ended. The Secret objectives are printed below for reference, but a set will be supplied to each player on the day. Don’t lose them!
Bring me the Head of Dan Francisco!
You must kill an enemy character in a challenge. Secretly nominate and write down a character in the enemy army at the start of the game. Reveal this to your opponent when you have completed the mission.
Perhaps Today is a Good Day to Die!
Nominate a Troops unit in your army at the start of the game and secretly write it down. To complete this mission, this unit must have been totally wiped out by the end of the game. Moving the unit off the board for any reason (including fleeing) does not achieve this mission.
If it bleeds, we can kill it.
Nominate a single non-vehicle unit in the enemy army at the start of the game and secretly write it down. You must destroy this unit in close combat by the end of the game in order to complete this mission. Only the last wounds need to be inflicted in close combat.
