My Star Wars Man Cave / home office

My Star Wars Man Cave / home office

Postby Spack » Mon Feb 22, 2021 6:38 pm

With working from home most of the time now, decided to turn the spare room into a home office. Good excuse to finally get my favourite items from my Star Wars collection or of the attic too :)

Spent a while planning it all out in SketchUp, initially with a 140cm wide desk which would keep me with just enough space, the room being 210cm and 185cm wide, with two tall Besta units at either side and a pair of Detolf glass cabinets in the middle.

Once I'd got the 120cm wide desk out of the garage that had been in storage for years, and got my pc set up and work laptop, I realised that I needed the full width of the room for desk space so the plans had to be changed. Have ended up going with two small Besta drawers at the bottom, three Detolfs on top, and Besta units above those mounted on rails. Still have another 128cm high Besta units to hang near the window, and led lighting to run though all the units, but it's getting there.

Added led lighting to the glass cabinets tonight. I went with a warm white / daylight white adjustable strip, it has 720 warm white and 720 daylight white LEDs, with a remote so you can adjust din and bright for each colour. The warm white always look a bit yellow, the daylight a bit blue, so this allows a mix which gives a more natural white than either.

Mixed warm and daylight white

These are a single strip cut into 150cm lengths, with a 4 core snap on connector at each end that connects each piece to a 4 core white wire bundle. Power comes in at the bottom left, up the strip on the left side stuck to the inner frame, a write bundle across the top, strip down the right side stuck to the frame. Wire bundle through a small hole drilled in the base feeds into the middle cabinet, to and repeat. And repeat once more.

The top cabinets will be lit from the same strip (it was originally 12m long, and I've used 9m so far), feed from a Y splitter at the top of the left cabinet.

Brought a few more figures out of the attic and moved a few things around.

Moved the Sideshow Stormtrooper down one shelf, and replaced him with another Marmit. This one had a mispack left shin armour, so has a Sandtrooper knee plate instead of the Stormtrooper one.

On the right, put the Marmit Sandtrooper Sergeant box in the back. Will be releasing him from the box and putting him together when the other units are in and I've got some room to shuffle things around

The Sideshow trooper was looking lonely, so two more Sideshow Stormtroopers joined him. He's noticed something a little odd but can't quite put his finger on it ...

Boba's helmet was moved down, and the scout trooper that was there moved to the left to join the gunner and snowtrooper.

Psst. If you hadn't noticed, two members of the traitorous rebel alliance have sneaked in. The Sideshow SDCC 2009 Exclusive Luke Skywalker & Han Solo in Stormtrooper Disguise, work Luke on the left with commlink and grappling hook, and Han in the middle with DLT-19 (this is a Dragon 1/6 scale MG32).

Did a bit more at the weekend, adding a shallow Besta unit on the wall for the lightsaber hilts, and mounting the blasters on the wall using bent screws with black silicone tubing. Also added the 12" scale Hasbro speeder bike on top of the cabinet.

This freed up some space in the bottom of the glass cabinets, so brought down some more 12" Hasbro figures - will remove them from the boxes when the stands for them arrive.

Freed the old Hasbro 12" bounty hunters from their boxes.
