Ha ha, yeah, my tones are unintentionally grumpy! I am saying it's a good thing! First edition is good! Infact I've been playing second ed with 1st ed rules since I came out.

OK, I have a question that seems obvious but in light of the recent FAQ I am now questioning it. Can the Marine player when he selects the Command Point counter get to know his Command Points at that time, or is it always hidden from him until the reveal phase?

It seemed obvious he would know ahead of time, but now I am confused.

He picks it up, sees what it is and can then (if s serg is still alive) pick again. Whether he uses the first or second result, he will know what it is. He then places it on the tracker adn the turn starts. The counter is not revealved until the mission status phase so the marine player needs to remember how many he had and not over-spend.

I've never played it that way (I always assumed the marine player could check at any time, not jusy when first picked up) but it seems to read that way in 3rd ed.

I guess I could reword it to be clear that he cannot check it once his ACTION PHASE has started. You can of course check it during the command phase. As soon as it's placed face down anda the timer turns, the action phase starts and the counter is not revealed until the mission status phase.

The whole point of that rule IMO is so that the Stealer player doesnt get to know how many CP the Marines have while ensuring that the Marine player cant cheat by using more than he actually has. Nothing says you cant pick it up (or write down the number, or hide a dice with the number on behind the box so your opponent cant see it etc), so thats how we will play it - if the Marine player needs to remind himself, he can just pick it up and look.

Yep - that's how I always assumed it worked. Let's see if there is any outcry from the current answer...

bah RAF, follow my signature link...all you need in life is supplied there :D , why fly above the war, or sail round it? join the army and charge right through it! :D

Plus no real wars are going to be fought (full scale deployment) for 10-15 yrs :( so pretty much peace time atm (don't let the papers skew your thoughts) the military is scaled to be at continuous war (2xMinor or 1x Major, now iraq is out the loop its back to normal working hours), atm were on holiday :P

Just unpacked and played my first mission. the new edition is so shiney. beautiful as it is it didn't help me not suck at it. Lost with both steelers and marines. steelers was close, only 3 ap from wiping out the marines. With the marines I made a couple of stupid mistakes inculding forgetting overwatch and leaving "Brother Scorchio" with his back unguarded. Looking forward to getting it painted up. I might take a break from painting orks on monday to do the marines.
