Very nice Dan, I like the techniques you used as well.

The results are stunning!

Got a better magazine from gazmosis on FISD, so routed out the receiver to fit it. Had to cut it down by about 1/2 inch as otherwise I wasn't sure there would be enough resin left in the receiver for screws to help keep it in place.

Made a mess getting all that resin out though...

Only two more parts to finish, the cap lock and the counter. Waiting on an item from China for the counter, working on the lock now.

So how long until you make a full, wearable suit now?

Come on, we know its coming...

Got the rear lock working. The one on the kit is just a block of resin, so I cut out the centre section and used some U shaped PVC to replace the outer part. Cut down a spring on from a ballpoint pen, added a little 1mm rod, and its done.

Almost there ....

IMG_20150714_185056805.jpg

Tonight I've glued on the rear cap lock and the new magazine, and added wires to the power cylinders that I'd already modded with threads and nuts. It's not screen accurate but it's close enough for me.

Once it's painted black it should look passable.

Just one more part to finish. :)

Really looking amazing Spack. That is going to be a model to be proud of when you are done.

Apart from the counter, the blaster is complete. After painting, which involved primer, pewter (for the bare steel look areas around the trigger and the ejector port), black, clear coat, and a satin coat (everywhere except the handle which needed to be left glossy), the final steps were to glue in the hex bolts and then screw everything together.

Hopefully it won't be too long before the counter parts arrive so I can get this completed.

The question is: Is it clumsy and random in an uncivilised age?

T-Jay on the FISD forums pointed out that I'd put the rear sight on back to front. Doh! Unfortunately I'd used epoxy resin glue and there was no hopo of getting it off in one piece. Lucky it's pretty much symmetrical from the side, so I used green stuff to smooth the edge of the front half, build up the rear edge to have the ridges added, and add the sight ring to the bottom. Hopefully it's close enough once painted.

Still no counter parts on the post, so this weekend I decided to make a stand. I might well make another one from acrylic sometime, but for now I had some scrap wood and a couple of hours to play with.

The blaster stand is really simple. The base is 18mm x 94mm pine, the uprights are 8mm thick and shaped so that they are wider at the bottom (60mm) than the top (35mm at the front, 45mm at the rear). The uprights fit snugly into slots in the base, and there's a small block of wood that sits behind the grip to stop the blaster from rotating due to the magazine and counter weighing down it's left side.

I also knocked up a simple stand for the helmet from two discs using hole cutters (127mm and 90mm), and some dowel cut to 25cm long.

Both have been undercoated and given a coat of black paint. Once dry they'll get a few coats of clear varnish.
