Doopydoos Resin Stormtrooper E-11 Blaster Kit Build

The counter has finally arrived :) next step is to hollow out the resin counter that came with the kit and fit the number wheels from the mechanical counter. I'm also going to try to transplant the toothed wheels as these will help prevent the number wheels from spinning when moving the blaster.

The counter is larger than the resin version, and the numbers are 5mm wider overall than the Hengstler 400 used in the movie version, so it can't be used without modification. There wheels will need about 1mm taking off each to get them closer, this should be easy enough to do as there is a gap between them already.

First thing to do was to make an outer casing matching the dimensions if the resin counter. I had some 1.5mm black plasticard kicking around, so cut out 5 rectangles. One of these then had a slot cut out where the clear plastic will be fitted.

Next I'll be trimming the internal case for the counter so that it will fit inside the outer case, with the intention to cut the resin one in half and attach the mechanical counter to the front half. Hopefully I'll post updates later.

I think I've done all I can work the counter mod, other than tidying up edges with filler and a coat of paint.

An inner frame was made from more plasticard, and holes drilled for the wheel rod and the cog rod. The wheel hubs were trimmed to get them closer together, and the cogs sanded a little too fit into the smaller gaps. The plastic and metal rods were cut short to fit, and then everything put into the inner frame. The clear plastic window was trimmed to fit the outer case, and slots cut to fit the reset button.

The resin counter was sawn to remove the bulk of the end to be replaced, and then trimmed back by the thickness of the plasticard all round to get a snug fit. A hole was drilled to match the existing hole in the resin to screw it to the bracket, and then everything put together.

Just need to tidy it up and paint to finish it off.

Finally the counter is compete. The reset button was made thicker and then sanded smooth, the internals adjusted a little to allow for the thicker button, and a hole drilled for the top screw which also keeps the cover in place.

The cover was given a few coats of black, the front half got a coat of brass and then black then sanded a little to let the brass show through on some edges. Both parts got a coat of satin varnish to seal them.

As far as I'm concerned this is now complete. I'm really happy with the result, and while I could have built the kit without mods I'm glad I did.

Took a few more pics today, but limited by the camera on my phone. Will need to find time to take better photos with my camera sometime.

Tweaked the Hengstler counter today, adding the electrical contacts. I couldn't find any blade connectors the right size so cut some larger ones down using a metal cutting disc on the Dremel.

I think this is it now, although I'll probably find something else to adjust next week.

Got a montage of photos from my camera. It's a bit overcast outside, and I took these indoors with natural light only, so they're a bit grainy as so much black doesn't photograph very well.
