Downtime

Postby LordMalekTheRedKnight » Sun Mar 09, 2008 4:50 pm

Hey all :)

i thought a thread would help us keep track of any downtime so Dan can investigate. rather than post this in the helpdesk, i thought i would leave it here so we can all post.

i experienced downtime from 16:35 - 16:41 (approx) today. just before the site when down, the font changed and all the text went white and purple (as it does from time to time).

i couldnt load
http://www.ageofstrife.com
or
http://www.ageofstrife.com/index.php

refreshing or using new windows didnt help, until it started working again.

hope that helps :)

That suggests that the page loaded, but not the CSS file to set the styles of the fonts and colours.

If anyone experiences problems getting to the site, I'd appreciate it if they could open a command prompt in Windows and run the following:

tracert 217.207.125.179

and then copy and paste the results in a post here. For other operating systems, there should be a way of running a traceroute, please check your help files or documentation if you don't know how to.

I've checked the logs and there was definitely traffic to the site between 16:35 and 16:41, there are hits being logged every few seconds. A traceroute output would enable me to work out where the likely cause of the reason for not being able to access the site is.

usually it gets fixed simply by refreshing the window... today however i refreshed and got nothing. :(

Start > Run, type cmd.exe, press ok. Then at the window, type tracert 217.207.125.179 and press enter, should get something like this:

Code: Select all
C:\>tracert 217.207.125.179

Tracing route to www.ageofstrife.com [217.207.125.179]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  7  www.ageofstrife.com [217.207.125.179]  reports: Destination protocol
unreachable.

Trace complete.

The last line, although looking like an error, is actually what is expected due to my firewall :)

Sounds like a routing issue between your ISP and the server then. The tracert output will help determine where the problem is :)
