New features: PM multiple recipients and autocomplete fields

Postby Spack » Fri Apr 18, 2008 10:11 am

Couple of new features have been added to the site (already discussed in another thread, but I thought I'd make a formal announcement).

Private Messages can now be sent to more than one person at a time - at the moment the limit is 5 at a time to keep spamming down. In the PM send form there is a + button next to the username field - just click that to add extra recipient fields to fill in. This upgrade also included another handy feature - autocomplete dropdown for the username, where as you type all matching names are pulled up in a list for you to select from.

The autocomplete feature has also been carried over to the search form for the author name field, and to the popup user search forms used in various places.

Both these features require Javascript to be enabled to work, like many other features on the site.

ive spotted a problem:

say you Reply to a message, write what you want to say and then Preview it, the recipients name gets repeated. this keeps happening every time you Preview the message.

e.g. "Spack" becomes "SpackSpack" becomes "SpackSpackSpack" etc.

if you try to send the message without noticing, it says no such user exists, so the message isnt sent. if you click Back, Refresh and then Retry, the message is still there, and you need to delete the duplicate recipient names, and pick the name from the dropdown.

could this be fixed? its really annoying. :x :(

cheers :)

Ooo, that's odd. When I tested the preview stuff it didn't happen to me. I'll take a look at it later.

I don't think Wolflord Havoc ever got that email I sent after "forwarding" it. But that's the other thread... maybe I'll repeat myself over there!

Tim, I found the glitch and fixed it. The multiple recipients mod was setting both the array of names, and the original to name, into the field, so that each time preview was pressed it would squidge them altogether. What I've done is to clear the original username field value if there is 1 or more existing recipients, and I've also added the multiple user name fields into the reply/quote form too (the edit form still only allows one recipient as the intention with that is to edit something in your outbox which can only be to one person).
