PMs

Postby mattjgilbert » Tue Apr 15, 2008 7:17 pm

hmmm... PMs don't seem to be behaving as expected.

I wanted to forward a PM from Tim but there is no forwarding option. So I quoted the original PM and changed the username using the Search for a user option. I sent it to Wolflord Havoc. Tim got the PM. My sent mail box agrees.

!?

I just tried the same thing again and this time there is no new message recorded as being sent in my sent box.

*cries*

Check your out box - the sent box only shows messages that you have sent and have been read by the recipient, the out box is stuff that hasn't been read yet and you can still delete it before the user reads it.

I'll look into the quoting and changing name - it should work, but I'll admit I've never tried it myself.

I just tested the quote and change username method, taking a message from Tim (nothing personal, just a rule quote, to test this) to me and "forwarding" to you matt, and my out box shows it going to you so it appears to work. Did you get it?

something else ive noticed is that if you "Reply" to a PM but change the Subject, it gets sent with the original Subject of the original PM you replied to. Can this be fixed (i.e it should only resend the original subject if the field is left blank)?

EDIT: Kate tells me however that she doesn't have this problem...

Tim, I've sent you two PMs - one reply, and one quote, both where I've changed the subject. In my out box they show with the correctly changed subject, so it appears that they should be right but can you let me know if you see them that way.

I've checked the code, and quotes and replies are handled just like new posts - the only difference is the pre-filling of the form with the previous name, subject and text. If you can test it, and it still does it, can you go back to the form before you make the changes and view it's source, then send me that HTML? There might be something odd, like a duplicated field.

The PMs I got had the subjects changed just as you wrote that they would be. I've replied to both without changing the subjects to show what they came through as. I don't see why it didn't work before for you - I haven't changed anything ...

hmm...

could it have been a cookie related problem?
(i had issues with a webcomic not updating properly too)

as long as it works then thats cool (i had assumed that it was like that for everyone, so when i wanted to send a reply with a different subject i was creating a brand new PM).

cheers

Uh, um.

I have the code for multiple recipients, I just need to shoehorn it in.

Forwarding you can do already - just hit quote, change the recipient, and send :P However, if you want to forward without it adding the quote tags I'll look into that as an option too.

Multiple recipients seems to be working, although I've had to kludge it in as I already had some preview mods, plus other mods, that weren't part of the multiple recipients mod - hopefully I've made the necessary changes to get it to work. Good news is that that ajax username lookup is working - I'll look at porting this to the search form too.

Matt, I've tried it a few times now and it seems to work fine, I can't see why you're having trouble with it ...

Odd. What browser are you using? If you don't mind, I'll take a look at the PM table and see if they've gone somewhere else.
