Any of our members playing Flames of War?

I'm trying to guage how popular this game is. I'm told it is quite popular and I see that most other GW online retailers are also selling it.

I had my 1st look at the game tonight, and I'm interested enuff, having seen the basic games mechanics, to be tempted into buying some.

Is this something that anyone here knows alot about, or actually has played themselves. I;d be interested to hear thoughts and comments on the game and its products, anything basically to help me make a decision.

a few of my friends play fow. Its a very good game to play i enjoy it the only reason i dont play is i find the models too expensive and i dont like working with resin.. I'll post more of a comment when im on my pc and not a mobile phone lol

OK, pros and cons.

Pros:

It is an easy game to pick up, it is packaged in a unit build friendly format, very similar in style to GW and it uses a standard miniatures scale 15mm. They also do not mind you using any 15mm models and figures, no GW police at tourneys etc checking the makes and banning units.

Cons:

Like GW it can be on the expensive side. Some of the infantry sculpting is rough. A lot of competition from other retailers.


I think the attraction for online retailers is that it all comes in sets and blisters so is easy to handle (if you have space). It has rulebook and codex's as its format and a very informative website.

If I was to go ww2 now I would use the vehicles from the range, many of which are very good sculpts even though they are often mixed material, being resin and metal and Plastic (well their used to be some plastic in them), and use Peter Pig Infantry. But that is just a personal view.

Just got into it myself, the vehicles are excellent, most of the figures are too, the game mechanics seem good. Please stock it as me and Simon would be customers.

I have played it using other peoples armies at a local club.

A most robust WW2 game system

The rules are very easy to pick up and I was told that they are based on what epic was to have become before GW ditched it.

I like the way in which it splits army lists into Early, mid and late war and conversions for playing disparate periods vs each other - basically if you have an early war Army you get an X% points advantage over a mid or late war army.

Never started it myself due to others in the club not being interested and it being 'yet another game sytem for my poor income to support' LOL

I have played it once or twice, and enjoyed. I would say about half or more of the regulars at my club in Swansea play.

As has been said, the models are generally is great condition and the game system doesn't care what models are used, alowing for a bit of competition for certain units and figures.

The game system appears to be easy to play and such, but I have yet to play. I do however own about 2000pts of Midwar American Paratroopers. Just no time to paint em up and paly with them.

I think they would be a good addition to GamingFigures.com, I only wish there was a US distributor for you guys so I didn't have to deal with the INT shipping.
