This feature will be useful to prevent swearing on the site and save admins from having to edit posts:

Yeah but things like this stop the whole point of having niceword admins in the first niceword place,

This shouldnt be imposed cos the lazy niceword admins wanted the niceword position so they should take the niceword responsibility!!!!

My point......

doesn't matter what you replace it with, you get the point :P

Err, you're not supposed to replace it with nice word, you're better to replace with "****" etc.

If we don't all picarding get a sense of maturity about the place.. the whole place is gonna be picarded>picard man  i mean, to my mind the intent is half the swearing anyway the letters they just make sure the other guy knows he's being mind picarded with.

just to make it clear, the main reason for the "no swearing" rule isnt to stop us lot from getting offended - its for the kids (or parents, for younger users) who might be reading over our shoulders, as well as the bosses of those that browse at work.

cheers :)

Does that mean that encrypting stuff either with detailed and complex anatomical references and or with leetspeak that the kids (bosses walking passed) wouldn't get is ok? (considers putting in certain words to see if anyone gets them then pulls back from the big red button 8O )

il leave that question up to Dan. :P

although personally, as long as its subtle (and wouldnt upset granny/get a kid in trouble for repeating in class/wont get the site blocked on anyone's work servers) then i would probably let it slide.

lets keep things respectful of course though (and keep threads on topic etc etc). ;)

I'd rather not have to implement a swear filter (btw IMF, that's for the new version of phpbb, not the one we're on here, but there is one built in should we need to turn it on), I'm hoping everyone here is mature enough for me not to have to switch it on :)

Also these things have an unfortunate side effect of often blocking words that are complete innocent - for instance, ****aki mushrooms, s****horpe united :P

yes, i must say that you guys make the job of moderating this site quite an easy one. in fact, its quite remarkable when i have to do any moderating in a given day at all (and even then, its usually just moving a thread to a different subforum, or editing out a slip of the tongue).

cheers! :)

I would rather not have my wordings jean luc'd about with.

It's interesting that this thread has more CENSORED words in disguise than perhaps any that have gone before.

No hidden messages.

Perhaps only one (even anti terrorists eat rollmops).

Ha, love your humour KMB and that film!

The reason we don't need things like this is because we don't have an abundance of morons and the ones that do come along get ignored/suppressed by our massive intellect!

WOOT! :eusa_dance
