help with warhammer

Postby mel » Tue Aug 31, 2010 7:33 pm

I have found boxes and boxes of warhammer in my loft.

I am moving home (downsizing) and have come across about 4 boxes of warhammer stuff, they were my eldest sons, who is now 28 so they are quite a few years old. He is fine with me trying to sell them as he is about to become a dad and needs some cash but I have no idea if they are worth anything and if so what. I have some pics and wondered if you knew who I could email these to for an opinion. Alot of the stuff is not even assembled, there are figures, scenery, machines and stuff in little plastic bags. i know this doesn't really help but if anyone could point me in the right direction or let me know where I could find a guide so I can at least list them on ebay that would be fantastic.\

Many thanks, M

I have tried to attach some pics but it only lets me attach 3, so if you let me know what kind of thing is more important I will empty the boxes and take some more pics.

Hi,

You can add pictures to a post here as attachments so they show up directly in your post.

For an idea on what they might sell for search for them on eBay, and use the "Completed Listings" option at the left to see recent finished sales. Going by current listing price is a waste of time - someone could list a figure at say £50, but if nobody is willing to pay that then it isn't worth that.

As Matt says you can post pics as attachments here in the forum, but please try to keep them reasonably small (eg 800x600 pixels). We can at least tell you what they are, and maybe even make you offers on some of them.

Looks like a 3rd ed 40k box set in the last set of pics, the one with Space Marines, Dark Eldar and a landspeeder, and some jungle trees.

I think your Warhammer box in the first post is the 5th edition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy_Battle

I also think you have an older box of Skaven Clanrats there.

Hi Mel,

You've got your sons permission, but this is a really weird hobby, most of us have bits and pieces that belong to childhood friends, a house used for communal painting etc..(I lent 3 storage boxes to a kid I used to babysit,10 years later I asked his mum if she still had them, but they went missing in a house move..everyone has something like that happen). Is there anyone close to home who wants them first.

With this stuff you'll really want to sell it section by section..selling warhammer orks (fantasy green bulky dudes) and dark elder (future elves who sneer and have guns)..in one will get very few people willing to pay what each individual section is worth.
So make 4 piles;

stuff that has guns and machinary (40k gamessystem)
stuff that has wizards and fur (fantasy stuff)
Scenary (general table top stuff)
Stuff your not sure about.

then sub pile into people who look the same, * (exception in that if you can keep the contents of a box set complete its a good selling feature to say its complete)
humans (normal /baddy,spikey or mutated)
ork
elves (theres lots of different types, but it gets confusing..generally 2 groups spikey and not spikey
rats etc.

If you really want this is the first point at which you should consider selling, but to get the best price you need to use the most faff.
Thats the stage at which you have people staring at models and working out whether they are classicral patha or rogue trader models (very old) or just box set stuff thats flooded the market.

You sell the rare stuff and vehicles individually and have generic same race same equipment people sold in batches advised by someone who knows what the market is looking for that season.(or just units of 8 or 10  )

Vaguely which country are you in? North east west? You could track down a FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store)..such as the one this website is affiliated with, and whilst probably not getting you the best price (and probably talking down to you like comicbook guy from the simpsons) they might be able to put you directly in contact with people who want to buy some of the bits and bobs (don't try gamesworkshop, the staff aren't mental enough to recognise and name old stock and wouldn't encourage sellers).

As Spack says your best best for pricing is (once you know the name) going to ebay completed listings, for stuff you suspect might be rare, metal, old looks weird.. try to find a picture of it here
I'd have a nibble at several things so far shown, but I don't pay ebay prices...I'm more a hoover who leaves a tip.
