Games Day Stuff

Postby PaddyF » Fri Sep 24, 2010 2:22 pm

If anyone who is going to games day can pick up the Games Day Figures (the Chaos Sorcerer) and doesn't want it I will purchase it for beer tokens. I am willing to pay the price plus a few quid more for the trouble of fighting through hordes of chattering children.

I would also nab a Necro Tomb Stalker if any one can nab one of those :D

I'll ask if anyone doesn't want the sorcerer they got with their ticket.

If I can get a Tomb Stalker, I will.

Tomb stalkers sold out but Wolflord Havoc ordered 2 (one for you and one for me). Will send it one when it arrives.

I'll put a chaos sorcerer in too :)

Oh nuts, I didn't realise you two were going to GD. I would have asked for a DK mounted commissar ... :( You could have popped in for a cuppa too, I only live a couple of miles away! :P

Just have to be careful asking for a kipper tie in Brum. They end up giving you a mug of PG.

I was doing good following this thread right up to this point! :D

I think I might need an English/American ~ American/English dictionary!

I know what kippers are, never knew they wore ties!
And a mug of PG?
Help!

Thanks KInG!

I'm a big coffee drinker, but my wife drinks tea.
Wait till tomorrow when I tell her I made her a Kipper Tie!

Actually the joke is that kipper tie with a brummie accent sounds like cuppa tea (with very nasal overtones).

A kipper tie is a very 70's wide tie (I mean shirt covering wide and usually in bright colours).

I forget that other countries have regional accents. Focus too much on the U.S. where if you want a good laugh, you have to listen to a southerner give directions to a down easter (American for someone from Maine.)

"Wull, id be rught faster to go by cur!"
"Why would I ride a dog when I've a good kah right here?"
"A what?"

(BRW, 'cur' and 'kah' are regional for 'car')

The best was a time I was in Texas, asked for directions to a certain farm to market road. I was told;
"wull, y'all go to the stop sign, turn right, 'n go 'bout 4 looks up the road."
"What's a 'look up the road'?", I asked.
"Wull, when ya make the turn, you look up the road as fer as you kin see. When ya git there, that's one look. Do it 4 times and there you are."

The kicker is that, when I did get 4 looks up the road, damned if the road wasn't right there! Local knowledge and color...gotta love it!

The British and the Americans "2 peoples seperated by a common Languge" LOL

I have been watching loads of True Blood recently and find my "reading voice in my head" becoming a 'Louisiana accent'.

Fairly good day - spoke with several of the FW guys - mainly about Babdab war and book 11 (Spacewolves/Guard vs Eldar on an Ice world) - I can see Phantom Titans (which we saw a full size mock up of) being tripped up by insanly flown Space Wolf speeders with cables (AKA Luke vs ATAT on Hoth). LOL.

The back ground for the book is that teh Eldar are trying to recover and artifact (I suggested Phoenix Lords armor) for a dead/dying Aspect - they had a model - a 4+ save looking jump pack/mini Prism lance equipped fella - apparently the sqaud will combine their shots (the more models the deadlier the shot) and are primarily a ranged Anti tank unit.

Spoke with Alan Blith (?) main writer for the 2 Babdab books and rather chekily suggested that he had 'borrowed heavily' from the BOLS effort! He was not offended and replied that they had infact based their source book on a campaign that he had run - so in fact it was they and not he whom had borrowed heavily.

I - suitably chastised sought forgiveness and Karma recovery by purchasing said tomb.

The Power armor kits and alternative marine weapons look great - potentially one of the best/most useful set of marine stuff FW have made IMO.

The new Dark Eldar are really nice - and got a sneak look at the rules

I think they are going to be crystal glass fragile like, but bloody lethal once they get to you (Wytches get +D6 attacks 'per model' rather than + 1 for charging but no power weapons).

Harlequins were in the list - very simular to Craftworld Eldar ones (as well they should).

I didn't see anything with regards to Necron!

The games tables in the main hall looked insane/packed etc so I pretty much steared clear and the FW sales stand was 5 deep for most of the day (not enough checkouts and distinct lack of queing system).

Will probably leave it for another couple of years - do Salute or some such instead.
