Lego and Star Wars ... going going gone

Postby Spack » Thu Oct 29, 2009 7:39 pm

I'm reluctantly selling a lot of collectibles I've picked up over the years. I simply don't have the space for them any more, they're sitting in my attic gathering dust (well, the boxes they're stored in are!), and I simply can't afford to hang on to them any more.

First up is the Lego Star Wars collection, which includes set #10030 UCS Star Destroyer still new in the box (all bags sealed!), plus pretty much all the sets up to the Attack of the Clones releases (including the UCS Tantive IV, UCS X-Wing, and UCS Tie Interceptor, the robotic R2-D2 and AT-AT sets, and pretty much everything in between). I need to get it all indexed and photographed, but all sets are complete and include the original boxes and instructions (most of the later ones are still sealed in the boxes, and the ones that were built were dismantled and kept in their boxes, and those stored in larger cardboard boxes).

I'm also going to sell my other Lego sets - including #8458 F1 Racing car, #8448 Supercar II (one of the best Technic car sets ever released), #8880 Super and most of the other sets I collected over the years (the Spiderman sets might end up going to my son though :P). I used to keep my set list up to date here: http://guide.lugnet.com/set/mlist.cgi?m=1019 , but there are a few more to add to that.

I'm also going to sell my Star Wars collection - it's quite small, especially in comparison to my Lego collection, but does have a few things I'm hoping are collectibles - a number of complete Decipher CCG sets including some autographed by actors from the films, some of the money boxes (Darth Vader, Obi-Wan + Qui-Gon Jinn + Darth Maul that interact with each other), and a bunch of toys, model kits (all unbuilt, in the boxes on the sprues), and books. Again, I need to catalogue what I have as I can't remember exactly what I have and it's taking up quite a bit of space in the attic.

I'm want to offer it all to AoS members before I start listing on eBay. I'll try to get a lot of this catalogued this weekend.

I started getting the lego star wars kits (original episodes not the latest 3) when they first came out. They were all opened and assembled though. My girls are now borrowing bits from the box to add to their own growing lego collection. I think if I were to try and put them back together now it could take a while to find all the pieces...

You do have to have a clear out now and again.

Wow, amazing - only just talking about Lego this morning with my Wife and Son.
We picked up a book from Forbidden Planet called "The Lego Book" which has details and pictures on the sets produced over the last 30 years.
In it I saw the picture of the set "#10030 UCS Star Destroyer" which I always wanted.

So seeing your post, count me in as interested in that and maybe some other sets (depends on price).

To get an idea of price, take a look at recently completed listing on eBay. I know it's not ideal, but it at least gives a rough going rate for the kits. The UCS 10030 was one I always wanted from the day I saw it at Lego World 2002 in Zwolle, Netherlands (I was helping out on the LDraw stand, back when I was actively involved in the Lego community EDIT oh dear, I found pics here!) before it was released, at over 3000 pieces it was for a while the largest set Lego had ever released (the UCS Millennium Falcon, which I also wanted but never did buy, beat that with just over 5000, and then the Taj Mahal came out at nearly 6000 pieces which is the largest kit so far, I think.

I ended up buying it shortly after release, but never had the space to actually build it (3ft x 2ft doesn't sound like much till you try to actually find that amount of room in a house such that nobody will knock into it), so it's remained in it's box with all it's parts still sealed up in their bags. I'd love to be able to build it, but I've realised that I need to sort out my finances (which is why I've also not gone mad buying loads of FW recently, and I may even have to start considering selling off some of my 40k stuff, albeit the races I'm not bothered about playing any more).

I'll start digging out the boxes over the weekend and listing what I have along with their condition and idea of asking price, and plenty of photos. I can arrange pretty cheap delivery insured next day delivery in the UK so I'm not going to be added loads on top for postage which will help offset the prices a bit (I'm still amazed at people selling on eBay quoting £20+ plus for postage on stuff which would cost £8 tops by Special Delivery!).

Re: Lego and Star Wars ... going going gone

My TV finally died today (it's been playing up for a week or so, but it's finally had it, turning it on results in the picture whizzing sideways and then it turns itself off after about 30 seconds, repeat ad infinitum), so I can no longer put off selling my LEGO. I've managed to post a few up on eBay: http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZworldofspackQQhtZ-1

I've based the starting and BiN prices on recent sales - I can't believe how much the Cloud City has been selling for, and I've got 3 watchers already and it's been up less than 2 hours! I just wish now I'd never opened the box!

As it is I didn't even remember I had this set, or the Millennium Falcon, until Friday evening when I found them while moving stuff around, a couple of weeks ago I'd checked LEGO prices and thought "damn, I wish I'd bought that Falcon and Cloud City years ago", and then <fazzam>, there they are in my attic all shiny and new. Hmm, I wonder ... "I wish I'd bought a box with a £1m surprise in it all those years ago" ...

Forget property or gold bullion for long term investments, buy LEGO!

EDIT: I can only assume my TV reads AoS, or saw me write this post last night, as this morning it has sprung back to life (albeit needing to be switched on two or three times before the pic stabilises), almost as if it's desperately trying to hang on and not be replaced. And the Cloud City set now has 5 watchers, and the Falcon and supercar picked up a watcher each overnight :D
