Wanted: White Raven Guard shoulder pad Decals

Postby mortiferum » Sat Apr 17, 2010 10:51 am

Hi

I'm in need of some Raven Guard White icon decals - shoulder pad sized.

I understand that GW don't currently have these - (I'm aware Forgeworld are more than likely to release some in the near future).

I know there are various fan made decal sheets available and what I'm after is for someone to be able to print and supply me with the decals.

I'd like White RG icons printed and sealed on clear decal sheets - if I'm not mistaken this requires a printer with the ability to print white.

I have PayPal and would be happy to pay for materials, postage / packaging, your time taken to print / seal these and more importantly your experience with having printed and used your own decals.

Hope someone is able to help

Cheers

Morty

I have dry rub-on decal paper in clear and white, not water-slide transfer. However, I will be ordering some waterslide transfer paper soon, so if you're still interested let me know.

Finding a printer that print white is going to be difficult. I have clear decal printer sheets, but no way to print in white. If someone can find a white ink tank for a Canon Pixma iP4500 printer then I'd be more than happy to try (just swap it for say a blank tank in the printer, and print from a black image onto the clear sheet would result in white). EDIT: not going to happen - inkjets work because the inks dye the white paper a different colour. Printers that can print white use a special pigment based colour - basically paint! - and is therefore much thicker than inkjet printer ink, which explains why inkjet printers don't have white available even as a specialist option - the pigment would clog the very fine nozzles in the inkjet printer head.

If you can live with white Raven Guard symbol surrounded by black (or other colour of your choice), say as a circle, then you'll have a much better chance of success. I have a pack of A4 white decal printing paper, and a printer ;) I can knock out some rub-on transfers for you to try if you don't get a better offer.

You can buy the decal sheets, and the acrylic seal for waterslides, from this site: http://www.craftycomputerpaper.co.uk/pr ... otCatID=14

However, I will point out that although I bought decal sheet I haven't yet had chance to try it out, so while I can recommend the site (the staff are extremely helpful on the phone if you have any questions), I can't say that the results will be as expected yet.

I've had a message telling me that there is now a white inkjet printer - Epson have released the WT7900 which has a new specially formulated white ink and firmware so that inkjet technology can be used to print white. It's certainly not the kind of thing you'd buy for home use though - the RRP is £8219.

The sender of this message is the owner of Parkes682 Custom Decals (http://parkes682decals.piczo.com) who state they can produce custom white decals to order. I've never used them so I can't comment on the quality, or the customer service, but it might be worth looking into. There is the small issue though of paying a company to produce items based on GW IP - the printer will be infringing the GW IP policy.

Hi Spack
This is not the WT7900 printer,but a SX115 A4 printer and costs £35.00
TheWT7900 is a solvent printer and cannot be used at home you have to have COHSE reg's to use it.I dont have that probelm mine is water based dye type and it works

So where do you get your ink then? Epson's white ink is, according to them, made of larger particles than standard inkjet ink and so requires a special print head that injects cleaning solution when the head is not in use to prevent it clogging, if you've just taken Epson white HDR ink and put it into an empty SX115 cartridge how to do you deal with the blocking, and the need to agitate the ink at least weekly? I'm working off the Epson specs here as you said it was Epson ink, but as you haven't provided any details yet it's hard to determine what you're actually using.

And the WT7900 is water based according to Epson, it's one of the big differences between it and other large format proof quality printers they produce - all the inks are water based for this printer, making it the first aqueous inkjet proof printer with white ink.

Hi Spack
Firstly it is not a Epson Ink,this been specially designed by two friends and developed to go into a SX115 printer. It's water based and does not need to be agitated in any way.Its been developed for use in the military as a coating it is two water based chemicals with agent that holds them together. It also does not get blocked either, all i do is send it for a head cleaning cycle after using it.
Have a look on Britmodeller.com in vendors,Parkes682Decals and there are some good photos of its use including a lorry with "white" large writing on its tanker sides.Have a look at the photos its Brilliant white
