Hive Guard and Flat Out Vehicles

Does the Vehicle only get it's 4+ Flat Out save or does it get a 3+ since they cannot see any part of the facing side?

Looks like a 3+ to me, am I missing something?

Is it barrage? If it is then cover will be based on the centre circle (so 4+). If not then you'll take it from the firing model and yes, I think 3+ as the firer cannnot see the side being shot at*

*which means that's true for any vehicle, not just those that went flat out. Vehicles get a 3+ and non-vehicles get 4+!

Matt is right... if you target any vehicle, you determine the armour rating you are shooting by your position to it, which fire arc you are in. If you can't see any of that side, and can only see other sides, then then owning player gets a 3+ save to represent the acute angle you're shooting at and the increased possibility of the shot glancing off.

I don't think so. The Hive Guard isn't hitting the side it can see and not the one facing it. The Impaler Cannon rules say that it can shoot any target in range regardless of LOS. The target can only count cover they are in or touching and only if the cover lies between them and the Hive Guard. It also says that; "Vehicles are always hit on the armour value facing the Hive Guard." so the vehicle if it moved flat out would get a 4+ cover save, not 3+ for the facing benefit.

What's the wording for gaining the 3+ Save?

BRB page 62, bottom left, if (for example) you are in front of the vehicle, but can only see the side of the vehicle, you can take the shot against the side of the vehicle but it would then recieve a 3+ cover save to represent the extreme angle of the shot.

And yes, even though I knew it could be construed as cheating, I decided to check the codex! 8O :o  8)

Yes, it looks like, by RaW, you have to be able to see the vehicle (although not the arc you are in) for it to get 3+ save. Because it's out of LOS, it's only 4+ :|
