I figure that rather than earning moderator wrath (?) by bumping Ph4lanxs excellent work in the articles section and the latter thread on the horus heresy books (just below) I'd start fresh.

Alter of Cyrene- £1.49
Originally from December 2004
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/altar- ... 2360?mt=11
Its part of the dawn of war chapters backstory from just before Dawn of war 1.
It has some charm about it, there is a drawn out message that ignorance is not the same as innocence.Interesting visual imagery of space marines running about like ants on a flaming ant nest during a exterminatus. Only really for people who were interested in the personalities in Dawn of war 1. Has some delicacy in it due to
Spoiler: show
hunting specifically to kill his father with his own hands

But I quite liked it, it had psychic powers, mutants and a game tie-in.

best line was where someone looks flustered and a space marine thinks to himself "they do not even know the litany of trigger pulling" (near on wet me keks).

Plague ship £1.50 from around the same time
http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-4 ... -ship.html
Doom eagles basically "do a space hulk" but this time with zombies. And its all about
Spoiler: show
how noble the guard chaplin was after all, having spent the book under suspicion

Alright I guess, a few of the jump scares would work really well in a 30 minute tv thing but came out poorly in text.

The Hunted (the john french one not the other one) Same price, from around 2011
http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-4 ... unted.html
A loyalist view on the alpha legion, quite a few twists and turns. Well written, genuinely didn't see the end coming.
Spoiler: show
Radical inquisitor is really rather a horrible bloke

The Carrion Anthem
http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-4 ... nthem.html
This book made me cross. The setup is brothers, one of whom is uptight and jealous. The other returns with a magical song that deafens and controls the people.. and then (slams breaks on) its all about nurgle and typhus. Why is this not a book about noise marines given everything in the setup?
Its well written but (and the black library give it away in its blurb) its horribly clashed in my mind.

The hunted was best, alter of cyrene next (if you liked Dawn of war), Plague ship actually did a few neat things but was really copy pasta, I couldn't get the taste of slannesh out of my mouth with the carrion anthem.

Ta for reading.
