It was only a matter of time.

Seriously is this place a front for a magnet selling pyramid scheme? Matt - Timewizard just beat you to a sale! :)

Not really a selling scheme, I just find myself attracted to magnets, for some strange reason! :dontknow

If you can try to create a variation on your list that is around 1500 or 2000...so that you can play a wide range of folks... (400 1000 1500 1850 2000 2000+ seem to be the brackets..although I'm sure some folks will play more)
1500 can be reached fairly easily by making the more drastic cuts I recomend and dropping either a tactical squad (not a great idea for 5th) or chopping back the numbers of your assualt squad (again not great for losing your counter assualt ability) but then nobody can have it all in 1500 (apart from darned cheaty eldar :P )

Thanks for the comments KMB, I already have quite a few different size lists as I'm using Army Builder to churn them out.

I'm simply trying to spec up the models within the units above before I build them. I'm going to update them now.

OK, I've tried to take into account everyones comments and have come up with the following changes.

I've opted for two scout sniper units, and a dev squad with heavy bolters. I realised this left anti armour minimal and so I've added the other dev in as four missile launchers, are you sure the Lascans wouldn't be worth it?

I've already posted in this thread that this is not a complete list.

*Edit*
Tell you what, I'll go the whole hog and split the above into some complete sample 1500 and 1000pt lists.

I'm essentially starting from scratch with this army so anything can be changed.

Better weapons loadouts, depending on how much you wish to future proof. I would suggest that those devastator squads don't need to be 10 man, convention states that you have 1 meat shield for every weapon...of course in 5th ed (and in codexs where only 5 man or 10 man options are available) those extra wounds might come in handy.

Didn't mean to offend IMF, sorry if it sounded that way. Was not my intent.

I have a few marine lists made up, various points and geared towards different enemy lists (a primarily assault force, an anti tank force, an anti infantry force.) If you approach your lists this way, it might make weapon loadout choices easier. Then when faced with a certain enemy (ie. tyranid-many units but no vehicles) you can field the most effective of your army choices.

Sounds like a really good idea, thanks for the tip! I'm sure over time I will grow to have a better understanding of what units to take to the battle. I may hold off making any more units up till I have got a load more games in.

Well I make up a lot of lists (use army builder because it is fast and easy) and then try them out on my own in solitaire play. I don't have a game store near me and usually play against a couple of friends or my wife. I'll try a list against another army list (sometimes taken from other site batreps) and since I don't have a bazillion armies (or models or dollars!) I will proxy the other armies. Then I tweak my lists and give it another try. Since I know the armies my friends have (and their lists!) I can even "wargame" the battle before the battle wargame :? .

As a matter of fact, I do! 8O Had major foot surgery 2 years ago and I have almost a dozen rods and screws in my right foot.
But the hardware is all titanium, and does not attract magnets, so I can walk past our refrigerator with impunity :D (I don't attract all the refrig magnets off the door! )

OK, I have finally done some full lists

I have done a rough 1000, 1500, 2000 and finally everything I have. I suspect that the 1000 - 2000 lists will want to take different elements out of the full list.
If possible I'd like advice on the VET and Terminator assault squads as I have no discussed weapons with anyone for these guys yet (see Full list).

*Note that although these are valid lists, the points don't quite stretch to the line, I will tweak them up later.

Thanks guys:

1000points
"1 Predator Annihilator Twin Linked Lascannon; Heavy Bolter (x2)"

4th ed (good works well) 5th ed that thing is hit by the defensive weapons rule really badly. So only play 4th ed?

" Bolter (x7); Meltagun (x1); Multi-Melta (x1)
(x1); Power Weapon (x1);

Bolter (x7); Plasmagun (x1); Lascannon (x1)
1 Rhino
; Power Fist (x1); "
Yes the fist wants to go in the rhino, but I think that the melta guns (with their limited range are the squad that need to go in the transport (lascannon has effective range across the table so is less likely to see assualt, so lascannon squad has the power sword, melta squad gets the fist and the rhino (just swap em)

"Marneus Calgar"
Sucks (just imo but there is a world of funnier things you could take instead( in 4th he's an IC who will normally die before he hits.. and in apoc taking that 600+ points squad for 5 men..I'd strongly advocate going sillier thing, such as using those models to represent the masters of the chapter datasheet or going sensible (and buying 4 masters with jump pack s and lightning claws..or 6 units instead of him.).
A good way to spot if he sucks is how many special rules (or nerf he gets in future codexs) rumours say he's getting twinlinked plasma master bolter crafted silliness and confers the ability to opt to run away from combat and (basically a shed of special rules to make up for his current load out)
