KRL1T - Valkyrie Tray(inc Insert) - Requesting a Review?

Postby mortiferum » Thu Apr 29, 2010 4:03 pm

Hi

I'm considering whether I should purchase 3 of these:

http://www.gamingfigures.com/viewProduc ... oduct=3768

1. Can anyone provide a review of the product?
2. Can anyone provide photos with the tray filled with a Valk / 4 Chimeras and 20 infantry?
3. How exactly does the Flying stand / base fit into this tray?
4. Is the Valykrie model once in the tray horizontal or is it at a slight angle? Nose up?
5a. How does the 20 infantry tray fit - I understand there are some spacers to keep it level?
5b. Where do these spacers fit?
5c. What do they look like, any photos?

Cheers

Morty

No idea but the page really ought to give you more detail.. all the other trays stipulate depth in the top section.. as in do they fill 67% or 100% of the cardbaord container.
I'm guessing its Depth 110mm as I'd imagine that the chimeras fit in sideways... but I don't like making that many constructive deductions from a picture..

Not bought a valkyrie case myself, but in terms of product quality on the general KR stuff - I can highly reccommend. Their website has slightly more detailed pics that show where the stand goes etc:

Interesting, it appears .. the KRL¾T with the chimeras lie flat= 66% er or something and the KRL1T (gaming figures one) has the chimeras slide in sideways and is a 100% er.
Although I'd still like that written in bold somewhere on both sites pages :D

KInG has one of these, so should be able to take a bunch of pics. From what I can remember, the Valk goes in flat. The infantry go in the little tray which sits on top of the Valk, with the spacer blocks over the wings to hold up the corners. The Chimera go in the 4 slots side on, with the turrets removed. The stand goes with the clear bit lying up the cockpit of the Valk, and the flat black part vertical against the end of the tray.

KMB, not quite - the 3/4T is for Chimeras as well, but will equally take Leman Russ, Hellhounds, etc. The holes are larger and with sponson spacings which is why they can only take 2 tanks rather than 4. It's also only 75% of the height of the 1T which is why the infantry tray won't fit in it, but that will mean you can put a 25% thick full size infantry tray above it. I think in this configuration the Valk has to be tilted backwards though, no flat.

I'll hassle KInG to see if he can get picks of both trays with models in them up on the site.

Hi guys, I will get those much needed images up for you.. and I'll get Gav to write a little review also once I've posted them. It's late now, just finished a game of 40k so will try nd do these after work tmw for u mate. I can tell you though, any tray that can fit 20 guardsmen, 4 chimeras a valkyrie and its stand (my design input used by KR in the final production ;) ) is worth every penny! They are great.

But the piccies will hopefully answer all ur questions :D

Here's some pictures of my latest KR purchase at salute - I bought 2 Valkyrie and 2 with Custom Eldar Foam for my Wave Serpents.

Cheers DaBoss, very helpful. I see the turret holes are designed for ones without crew ;)

I think if I end up getting trays for all my Valks I'll go with the 3/4T - less tank space, but it will take a full size 25% depth infantry (or other same depth) tray to get more troops in which is more useful as my Air Cav list doesn't use vehicles at the moment.

Thanks for the photos - they were indeed very useful!

1. I hadn't appreciated that the infantry tray had the models standing upright and that the spacers fitted over the angled wing 'tips' for a start.

2. I noticed you haven't got the flying stand included in your case - any particular reason for this? Whilst I can make out were the 'base' fits into the tray I can't work out where the 'flying stem' fits does it go over the top of the cockpit or under the cockpit? Either way wouldn't the stem scratch the painted cockpit?

3. Not so much of a problem on my Valks but many of the Valks I have seen have a long pointy bit (sensory array) sticking out from the 'nose'. How does that work, doesn't it get in the way of the 'flying stem' and in danger of being damaged?

4. Looking at the photos more closely - it appears that in order for the infantry tray to fit in it requires the Valk to be 'tilted' up at the front (nose up, tail down) so that the 'paralell 'bits' (is it called the fusilage?) are horizontal - allowing the infantry tray to sit level ontop of them - is this correct?

Many thanks

1. Standing Infantry is not perfect as you can see with some dynamic postures like my Sergeants, the holes are too small.

2/3. If you look at the nose of the Valk, you can see a cone shape of foam that can be taken out and the stand inserted over the top of the model. My Valks are the original resin ForgeWorld models so no stands yet (still not decided how to base them). By taking out the foam cone you should be able to make space for the sensor array (mine broke ages ago).

4. My photos a bit misleading as the Valk is need of repair, left side wing and strut came loose in my old storage box.
But my 2nd Valk seems to sit flat on its landing struts in the case. You could always use the foam bits from the Chimera slots to pad the Tail section.

Looking at it - I think the 3/4 T would be better as Spack says you could then have a full Infantry tray on top.

Thanks for the clarifications!

So does Gaming Figures stock the 3/4 tray - KRL¾T - Valkyrie Tray, I couldn't find it in the store?
