I was kind of underwhelmed by the last IA8 ravenguard named character ..with their give with one hand punch in face with the other.. But I quite like the
IA 9 guys so I thought I'd promote talk amongst those who have it sat in front of them.
Which character would you most be tempted to squash into your lists from IA9, can't give out rules (don't ask) but I think we can in an obfuscated manner discuss resultant impacts I guess.(although it will seem a bit cryptic to people without it)
Venerable chaplin dread..OK so he costs about right.. but who takes a venerable dreadnought, and in super era of combat resolution who wants to be fearless. They have to totally change everything about the named dread before I’d think of using him. Preferred the beta rules for a generic elite slot dreadnought chaplin myself
Huron is a bit too chapter mastery and expensive.Although his rising from the grave must be amusing in games.
The captain/bodyguard whilst sexy and kind of kharn-like,+ with his aura is pleasant but really doesn't add anything to how I use tacticals. If I don't buy the model.. I will scratch build it as his bolter is very cool.
The master of the forge (the named one people rumoured about in the
BA rumours I think) is highly sexy..he has that thing that all techmarines need, well both of them.. and if my maths are right his blessing of omnissiah is much better than someone with a conventional backpack, whilst his unit boost is very sexy for taking on nurgle wraithguard and demonzillas, it won't effect my most regular opponents but I believe this is factored into its low cost...I will certainly give this baby a swirl.I believe it is master of forge fixxed
Old school plasma captain is pleasant and cheap (cheaper than half his equipment let alone the squad upgrade) kind of mini-sicarius, but doesn’t float my boat.
Librarian- first glance makes me dance around (partially in rage),,who would not just constantly use *that* save. 2nd glance- Gosh thats expensive, 3rd glance actually in terms of a super epistolary he's dirt cheap. Still a bit much for a casual support character though in conventional point games.Have no idea about him..
Cullen (better than the anphelion project, incredibly better than the beta pdf you might still have kicking around) - I ran purity above all in 4th ed, but I just can't get used to wanting to replace my most versatile squad upgrades with the squad having snipable
FNP.. meh if you take lots of tactical squads and don't care about combi weapons or fists he's undercosted.I prefer
BA priests but I'll mess around with a few builds.
Master explosives gunnery guy.. In nearly every version of list I can think of straight away ..its suffers from dreadnoughts not getting the benefit (like shrike)..here you have a skill that they should have..more than the grunts. If he's sat in a sisters rhino he can make them super awesome.. but he can't give a basic skill in vet terms to a dreadnought. You just can't get long range anti tank as infanty in the smurfs list. No
CC ability and having to think up strange ways to use sternguard hurt my brain.Cool idea but not for the smurf list.
Lias Issodon, Good synergy with sternguard.Dig in, and snipe. Odd additions and minus's to chapter master for fluff. Its nice for smurfs to finally have a reserve mashup thing (just so there is noone demon players can face now).
Phoros- a
BA character that if you wound him he gets rage (lol) He makes a squad fearless (thats a very bad thing in the ba codex.. you get sad if that happens).Must be a joke charector. He must..right?
Blaylock..unipressive..apart from its the first time since that terminator with a plasma cannon that we (UM codex)can field terminators as scoring units (still need 2 troops choices first though
)
The knight captain- IMO a modified version of the IA8 character
. mini he'stan too. like the gunnery master..wrong codex to try to make me field vanguard. Interesting way to fix the gap that assault marines don’t have access to melta so take flamers. He needs some seasoning..just one bit more, 1 more +1 stat something to make me want him.
It would have been nice if one (any one although especially the last) would have allowed heavy flamers in tactical squads as a heavy option (counts as plasma cannon from the list or something. tactical squads always having to not do something might be fluffy but it doesn't fit how opponents games play)
I'll certainly bring out the master of the forge..probably should play culln once to get out my apothecaries..knightcaptain maybe.I'll have to study hard before using issodon and the librarian.
