Super Heavies

Postby Ljundhammer » Mon Nov 01, 2010 10:54 am

So which is your favorite super heavy & why?

I've done the rediculous & agreed to an Apocalypse game with KMB. I'm using a combined inquisition/IG list to 6000 points.

I'm thinking:
1) Fortress of Arrogance (because it's so damned cool!)

2) Another baneblade varient.

I like the baneblade, but I also like the hell hammer, then I look online & there's cool stuff like the banehammer and the stormsword.

Or do I just pick 3 & go for the baneblade formation?

I need help picking, I'm like a kid in a candy store. At the moment the bane hammer is winning, but I change my mind every 10 minutes!

OMG - I just checked out Apoc Reloaded! There's a money funstering DeathWing formation! Woop-woop!

Don't know.

But, I just designed a randomiser that came up with

Swordbladeofhellwingbanestormdeatharroganceshadowhammer.

Is that any use at all???

I do love the StormBlade so....but I think the Baneblade is the most useful all round Superheavy to have in a collection and at 500 - 650 points each (depending on the upgrades taken!) its not going to break the points bank

However do you have an inkling of what your opponent is taking?

If there is going to be a smattering of Ork Stompas for example then A Shadowsword or 2 might be called for!

There will be at least 1 warhound :(

The shadowsword takes me back to my youth, playing adeptus titanicus & space marine on my bedroom floor! But it doesnt seem very good in 40k :(

You cannot know the devastation of D class weapons until you experience it.
Automatic wounds, no cover save, causes instant death. Against vehicles auto penetrate with +1 to the chart.

You just have to pick the right target.

It's why the Cobra is the most feared weapon, moves 12" each turn, kills a whole unit (10" template at 60" range and no void shields) and gets a 4+ inv for doing so.
Great/no fun when dealing with uber nobz bikers depending on who's sides it's on.
When you wish upon a star, your dreams can come true.
Unless it's a meteorite falling to Earth, which will destroy all life, then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for.
Unless it's death by meteorite.

Personal choice is a stormblade - nothing to do with rules, although the 2 large plasma death templates are cool, I just love the model - that plasma blast gun is just sooooo coool.

With IG, I think that a Stormlord could be fun. It can carry something like 60 models, half of which can fire from it, and Heavy Weapon Teams are models (i.e. officially, they count as one against the limit).

In 6000 points, I would be very tempted to take the Steel Spear (is that the proper name?) Baneblade formation and a Shadowsword for anti-Super Heavy fire.

Ignoring what you are taking and just answering the initial question, my favourite Super Heavy was my Thunderhawk with a Deathwatch Kill Team lead by a Librarian with a Vortex Grenade.

As someone once said, "If something is worth doing, it is worth overdoing". :D

Besides, my Adeptus Mechanicus army is really just an excuse to have a buch of Super Heavy Tanks.
