What would people think if all named characters got it (and some other generic models ofc), but the rule was changed to only apply in close combat?

Interesting idea.
I don't think it would break the game and it would certainly open up some different tactical considerations.
I'll have to playtest it a bit.
Have you tested it at all yet?

Named and not ICs .... Well there aint many who don't nowadays. But it would stop my Archon insti dying to S6 wounds when he rolls a 1 on his 2++ inv.

No, it only occurred to me on the way home. Someone gave me some suggested rules for the Chosen of Abaddon, and one of the criticism I was going to make was "I've already got my quota of EW models in the Codex". Then I thought about a houserule I know one club uses that all SCs get EW for +15 points.

This then led me onto thinking about how to balance the fact that from 170-ish points people don't like non-EW characters as a general rule vs upsetting people that everyone was EW, and why bother with the rule in the first place.

A halfway house that no-one likes or everyone can buy into?

@Nige: I haven't really thought about non-SCs, though in principle I don't object.

A slight modification would be to make it so that ID only applies to shooting, but that certain unusual weapons can cause it in CC.
