Pale grey fatigues. Boltgun metal followed by 2 coats of badab black on the flak, then chainmail to 'catch' a few chips around the edges of the flak plates on the chest and black.

The flak will be a dark metallic, offset by the lighter fatigues. (Fortress grey?) Sgt models or officers could have gold tim. Would suggest a flash of some colour on the rifle stocks as the scheme is very muted at the moment.

Is that similar to how the silver spiky areas of your Brass Scorpion appear?

Hmmm.... might be challenging for my level of skill, but I will see what I can do.

The dark metal comes out something like the grey/silver bits on here, ignoring the rust: Warjack
Looks complicated but actually simpe:

1) Flat coat of boltgun metal
2) Coat badab black
3) Coat badab black
4) Fine brush with chainmail - stroke along edges of plates leaving fine edge of bright metal. Small scratches and flicks can be added with very tip of the brush. Have a go and see. :D

The gf asked me to paint a model for her, and as this was undercoated pre-5th Ed (   ) and no longer needed for it's original purpose :D

Unfortunately the light isn't very good, but I need to prove it was finished tonight, so it'll have to do for now.

Cheers :)

It's a heavy machine gun, not a sniper rifle so none of this exhaling stuff... pull trigger and hold on for dear life because machine gun barrels naturally lift as they fire repeatedly so you have to hold/force it back down towards your target. The man looks well braced to keep the barrel down to me! ;)

My only objection is that the firer should be behind the breech looking down the gun.

Certainly thats how the German MG42 gunners who fired this way did it.

Looks good. Do you have any of the washes? You could have started with the skin being white (or pale blue) and then wahsed it blue (more times for darker tone). That would have lifted the model and made it less flat blue. Worth trying on a spare model to see how the washes behave.

Well the skin was painted before 5th Ed 40k existed (IIRC it was the first time I tried the Foundation paints too), so I was kinda stuck with that. I will try some more "blatant" lighter blue and wash. That's what I did with the hair, although I do find the washes quite thin, the hair was almost a disaster!

Little experiment in dipping on a "red shirt" model:
Image
Image

Method:
Spray white
Usual base technique
Brush on Quickshade Medium
Clean brush in white spirit
Pick out collar in Chainmail
Light drybrush of Bleached Bone
Light drybrush of Skull White (inc base)

Job done :)

(Well I need to tidy the rim and do a quick wash on the Chainmail, but yeah)

Hopefully this will develop into a speedy appearance of my Tomb Kings :)

Thanks Matt :)

Try doing the chainmail first and then dip it. You will not need the wash then.

Needs the final matte varnish ;)

I actually didn't notice the collar until after I'd dipped :(

Try dipping straight after the white spray to see how that comes out. Might not be too different and will save a step!?

Well, that's not a bad idea, but if you look at matt's pages, you see the results he gets by putting all the 'first coat' colors on the model first, and then dipping them.

@Bara - looks good! Can't wait too see more.
