Going to try my hand at some modelling this quarter, but it won't be 40k (or even 28mm scale!). My son's train set layout still needs more work, and I've somehow convinced myself to try to scratchbuild a German WW2 armoured train along with a Leopold railway gun that will run on OO track.

Spent the past two days trying to track down cheap parts for the bogies as trying to scratch these may result in the train not running, especially as the Leopold has 24 wheels (6 pairs at each end). Also trying to find a cheap motorised loco chassis, they keep coming up on eBay at low starting prices but quickly rise to ridiculous prices, there is a local second hand dealer that I might call in the week to see if he has any broken locos kicking around.

I've got plenty of scale plans for the carriages, but I've also been looking around for cheap 1/72 scale Panzer IV kits but even they're not particularly cheap - ended up that the cheapest option would be 1/72 Plastic Soldier Company Panzer IV boxes (I'd need at least 4 turrets so a single box with 3 tanks isn't enough), and even then would be far more than I want to pay. Looks like I'll be scratching those out of plastic card too.

Once I've got something on the go I'll start a blog, but won't be until I've got a loco chassis and some wagon bogies so that I can build the loco and wagons to fit the chasis/bogies rather than try to fit them after I've started building.

For great value and new stuff, look here:

Especially the Bargains section, and the cheap Hornby Railroad range.

Been there a few times, and already have some of the Railroad range for my son. They're already in my list of possible source sites for bogie sets :)

Made a good start on 8 raptors!
That'll take us up to 20 (so just 15 more after that then).

My house is being rewired, thats my latest excuse.Unfortunately we got rewired just after moving nearly all my stuff back into my house.. so my task for summer is to get rid of brick and plaster dust from everything.. (boo hiss)

Building dust is horrible stuff. It invades the entire house.

Aye, very messy. Still need to tidy up some plastering in my house from last year.

As to the project, I've finished collecting source material for the train build. Today my copy of Trojca's BP42/BP44 book arrived. Very tempted to sell it on once I've build my templates if the $1817 asking price on Amazon.com is getting any buyers! Will be very handy though as it includes two A1 sheets with 1:25 scale drawings of the train wagons as well as colour drawings and plenty of photos in the book itself.

EDIT: started work, have posted in my blog: blog/Spack/panzerzug_bp44_train_oo_scratchbuild_b-98.html
