Why don't you just buy the same colours you used to use from one of the companies that colour match GW?

Why not go with dark green and tan.
Then the light green and bone could be used for highlighting.
I don't think it would be to "salamanderish".

Dark Angels are green with bone trim and vice versa for Deathwing but I see where you going with it. Also one of the Successor Chapters uses a halved green and bone colour scheme, Angels of Redemption I think. Al's got a good idea, why don't you try Vallejo or someone like that to see if you can get the colours matched? I think Vallejo paints are very good, better than GW imo (although I've not used GWs new ones), plus you get more in a bottle! The FoW website used to have a colour conversion chart for the Vallejo FoW and GW paints, not sure if its still on there.

alright, after talking it over with wiz and my fiance, the new colours are bone and blue :D

just gotta figure out the break up for them, so tomorrow i'll get a marine done entirely in bone, and see where the blue would look best :)

now, also got a way to use the various colour schemes going here together!

fluff heavy, general jist is this:

the chapter split after the death of the first chapter master, lost contact with each other and ended up their own entitites

the new chapter master (Talyn the 5th) or (i hesitate to suggest this, got shouted at in GW for it!) the Primarch re-emerges and sets about putting their Chapter back together

everyone wears the same badge (the cross), so no one can complain about the colour differences! :D

win win :D

Interesting.
Tw first, your fiance second.
Is this how you will plan your wedding?
Will you be dressed as one of the sons?
Will she be happy in a bone and blue wedding dress?
Will TW emerge from the wedding cake?

I don't think you've thought this through!!! :D :D

this may not be any use to anyone, but i went through some painting things in last months white dwarf, gave one a shot

took step by step shots for a rust effect, its really not that bad if im honest, and this is a lot more detailed than how GW did it :P

4 steps, works best on small areas, as larger ones look awful (i tried) you need 3 paints and 1 wash, i dont know the old versions, but if you have a chart, you may already have them

first step, prepare the area you want the rusted effect with Skrag Brown
Image

next, apply a finer line within the Skrag brown areas, using Fire Dragon Bright
Image

third, wash the area down with Agrax Earthshade
Image

once dry, apply edging using Runefang Steel

well the test guy is done

or at least his armor is, his weapons arent painted and he lacks details (eyes), but its the armor i wanted to get done first

so, here he is

the first Sergeant of the Seekers of the Knights

ImageImageImage

i know he needs a little clean up in places, but that will get done when i finish him up, really right now its just to see how he looks :)

colours used are Ushabti Bone with screaming skull highlights (you can barely see them in the picture), Alaitoc blue and agrax earthshade

here's a group shot!

Image

and the progression of colours :P
ImageImage

gold to black and gold (new versions of the old scheme, painted using Vallejo liquid gold, beautiful paint!)
tan to tan and red

knights of talus to sons of talus :)

now, also re-written history! seriously, dont we all wish we could do that? :P

it now goes like this (short version)

during conflict with dark eldar forces, the knights of talus (all gold at this point) sent out multiple ships to engage them, during warp travel, half the fleet disappeared
to mark the disappearance of half the chapter, they repainted their armor with black

the ships that were lost, emerged in two locations, both incredibly far from Talus (homeworld), it was decided by one group, that they would colonize a planet and remake Talus, they repainted themselves in tan and renamed themselves the Sons of Talus.
Tau forces appeared to retake the planet from them, to mark the losses they took, they added red to their armor and declared blood vengeance against the tau that hurt them.

the other group, set about returning to Talus, a journey that would take centuries, along the way, they lost their commanding officer, the guy that took his place decided that since they wouldnt find home in their life times, they should become their own force, their armor was repainted in bone and blue, and they renamed themselves to Seekers of the Knight (searching for Talus, home to the Knights of Talus)

meanwhile, on Talus:

Chaptermaster Talyn hatches a plan with his Circle to go find the lost forces, and bring them home

thoughts on the story?

thoughts on the paint scheme?

want me to stop talking now? :P

-self reminder for future-

when making vindicators, do NOT completely assemble them before painting... the added armor panels would have been perfect in blue, but now i cant seperate them to do so!

anyone ever tried masking off the rhino chassis under the armor panels? its freaking impossible!

so now i get to be creative in adding a stripe to them!

also (for the log here)

the other two raiders i have in progress

one is still tan and red (MKIIb) , and will stay that way, will use the last of my tan mix for it (clean up and one side to finish)
the other will be a Crusader, and appear in black and gold

rhino's/predators are yet to be split between the 3 colour groups

Take it you used plastic glue? if so Put the model in the freezer for a few hours, it should make the glue brittle enough to gently prise it apart.

It might work on superglue as well but I don't know. I've always found that if you apply enough lateral pressure on superglue it'll give, just try and get a thin blade or something in there.
