AOS Painter of the Month Competition - March 2013

Re: AOS Painter of the Month Competition - March 2013

Postby Spack » Wed Mar 13, 2013 5:53 pm

Just checking I've got this right - I can dig out the model I'm going to paint tomorrow (need to go rooting through the attic in daylight, and not had chance so far), and enter tomorrow evening/Friday morning. Then got until next Friday to post pics, so I can paint it this weekend?

I know I've pushed things a bit close, but last week was utter chaos with being away, the weekend was a blowout due to DIY and other stuff that I had to do (and still haven't finished!), and this week I've been burned out at work trying to sort out the mess caused by last week ...

If I can't settle on a 40k model to paint then I'll be painting one of the card tanks I built - not sure which one though ... decisions, decisions ...

Could be. But that would depend on to whom the toes belong. :)

I'm going to paint my 1/87 scale card Tiger I tank. Attached photo is of the tank with no paint - the colours are simply the original inkjet printed card. The tracks are unattached (second track yet to be completed), as they will be easier to paint if not glued to the hull, and a number of hatches and other small details will be added prior to priming.

The tank will receive a coat of primer prior to painting, and I'll post a pic of it primed once I start - most likely on Saturday. The final colours will be quite different to the existing printout :)

Welcome aboard Spack!
This gives a fairly diverse group of models for the first competition!
Just what we were hoping for.
For any other aspiring entrants, there's still one day left to enter.

As of today, there are 6 entrants for this first monthly competition.

Hello all!

Just a reminder that today being the 15th, you have until midnight (GMT) to submit an entry.

After that time, no further entries will be allowed.

You will then have until the 23rd (or a day or 2 later, need to discuss this with Talus) to submit your final entry.

After that time, voting will commence and all voting will end at midnight (GMT) on the 27th.

Made a little progress today - the Tiger construction is finished. Once the glue has had time to dry thoroughly it will get a coat of primer. As well as the hatches that are part of the kit I've also added a couple of additional card rectangles to the upper rear hull which will be painted to look like the engine covers. I've also added some nylon string on the upper hull and the left side of tank for the towing cables.

Looking good.
Nice touch on the tow cables as well!
How are you going to detail the tracks?
Once they are primed and painted, aren't they just going to be flat cardstock?

Yes they'll be flat, but I'll be painting them brown to look muddy and then adding little fine lines of silver to represent bare metal where the mud has been worn off the links. If it doesn't look right I'll have to come up with another plan ...

Just modified it a little more, no pics though as my camera batteries need recharging. One of the side skirts wasn't glued properly so I fixed it, and while doing so cut out some little pieces of card for the metal loops on the ends of the towing cables. Also added some more little rectangles on some of the hatches to add additional relief detail that will help define them when it's painted.

Nice!
I got a little work done too. All the vehicles have been base coated.
Image

And the jeep and crew are mostly finished, just need a few highlights and the base material.
Image

Not shown is the base coat and flesh base on the 16 different and very, very tiny figures!

If I don't go blind by the time I get these Flames of War forces done, it'll be a miracle!
