AOS Painter of the Month Competition - May 2013

AOS Painter of the Month Competition - May 2013

Postby timewizard » Tue Apr 30, 2013 6:07 pm

Welcome to the May 2013 Painter of the Month Competition.

Each contestant must submit a photo of an unopened box, unassembled model or unpainted model or models or submit a drawing or photo describing the project into the "Painter of the Month April 2013" thread. Primed only models are acceptable but completely unprimed models are preferred. All genres of modeling are acceptable; i.e. any 40K, WFB, LOTR, FoW, plastic, metal, paper or collectable model as well as any scratch built project including terrain pieces. On the 15th of month, a list will be posted by one of the moderators listing all eligible contestants for that month's competition. No entries will be accepted after that post. No exceptions.

During the month, wip photos can be put into the thread, and in fact are encouraged, but may not be placed in the competition gallery.

All completed entries must be submitted between the 15th and the 27th of May and must posted in the competition gallery. No entries will be accepted after midnight GMT on May 27th. Only one entry per person will be permitted and the entry must consist of a single image. Multiple photos on the image are allowable but if more than one photo is uploaded to the gallery by any one entrant at any time, that entrant will be disqualified.

Voting will be held from May 28th until midnight GMT on May 30th. At that time voting will be closed and the winners will be announced.

Every registered member of the site may vote. The total number of votes each member may cast will depend on the number of entrants as follows;
Up to 5 entries - 1 vote per registered member
6 to 10 entries - 2 votes per registered member
More than 10 entries - 3 votes per registered member
You can change your vote(s) until the poll is closed. No poll results will be revealed (even to the moderators) until the poll has closed.

The first place winner will be named the "Painter of the Month" and will be listed on the site. In addition, first place gets 3 points, 2nd place 2 points and third place 1 point.

In the event of a tie for any place or position, both entrants will receive the appropriate number of points. At the end of the year a "Painter of the Year" as well as the 2nd and 3rd place finishers will be announced. The winner will be determined by the total number of points received throughout the year.
If an entrant has not completed their project by the deadline, they may still enter an incomplete entry if desired, but it will of course be judged as such. The only requirement is to post the entry by the deadline. The members of the site have the final word after all!

We are still working on getting prizes for the year end winners. More on that as it becomes known.

Good luck to all the contestants!

Ok I vote for Talus! What? Too early you say? Lol. Seriously though, I've been wanting to build/paint the MkII Viper a lot recently. So looking forward to seeing how they turn out.

My entry...

For the month of May, I plan entering another Malifaux crew. This time it's Ten Thunders lead by Mistress Misaki. I have no idea what faction they are part of, as I think they are either part of everything, or completely separate from everything.

Image

This is of course depending weather I can get some new brushes any time soon. No shops locally sell the kind I like. But yeah, that's the plan.

if you're interested, they're mobeus models distributed by revell, £20 each on amazon (galactica for £25, pegasus still ships from the US at the moment, retails approx $65)

fyi, galactica and pegasus will follow as contest entries as soon as pegasus lands on my doorstep ;)

After failing abysmally in March I shall re-enter the fray.

This Month Matthew I am going to be building an Antebellum Southern Mansion.

Here is the start point, ground plan and sketches (blanks pieces of card are a drag to photo and I need to show the start point.

Ok, I'll re-try in the hope this gets my project completed!

My WIP Storm Eagle for my Black Legion. I have been adding to it over the last month, it's not painted (Other than a hatch, which will be re-sprayed!)

ImageImage

Hope it's ok. I will add some more detailing tonight if I get a chance, then it's onto chaos-ing it up a bit and filling the small gaps at the edges. Rather pleased with it so far though, although it's been a pain in the backside, it's very much a labour of love!

Last month became a bit busy. Suddenly I looked at the calendar realizing that the deadline was in 2 days.
And there on my workbench sat this still untouched model!
I didn't want to do a headlong rush job on it and end up getting chopped in the competition.
so I had to cut myself out of the event!
So this month, no excuses, I will get this kit finished!

Image

I feel like my model bench is stuck in a time warp until I finish this one model.
So this here's a heads up on my entry!

for your consideration, we have the first WIP shots of the vipers!

now, just to explain why the mk2 looks a mess, had a little mishap with the airbrush... it decided to start sputtering, but fear not, its been scrubbed down, cleaned out, bashed with a hammer and fired into the core of a black hole

replacement should be here in a week :P

the mk2 was scraped down and reprimed in the effected areas, so fingers crossed it still looks awesome once the white goes back on

also a recommendation for anyone else building these kits, paint the cockpits first and mask them off BEFORE putting them into the bodies, since the bodies need to be built around them, its easier to do these steps first than later

the mkII

Image

the mkVII (almost done!, just weathering, washing and decals and its good to go!)

Image

cockpits (yep, i was smart enough to paint them first, just not MASK them first >_>

ImageImage

someone please remind me, next time i make a mkVII, to pick up the photoetch cockpit... simply because it carries so so so much more detail than the stock part does!

Timewizard is a feeder. If models were food, Talus would be extra large and Timewizard stood behind him with a massive plate of cakes :)
