New AoS (primarily not 40k) meet-up

Postby mattjgilbert » Thu Jun 06, 2013 9:18 am

It's been a while. We've also all started playing lots more games. Is it time for another meet-up?

I suspect with the variety of things people are now playing (or not playing) having a single theme is not going to fly. However, as long as we all know that and are happy to bring and play a mix of things, who is interested in setting something up?

When is best for everyone and what's the best venue? 1 day or a whole weekend?

I'm open to day or weekend but I would caveat that by saying my wife has the power of pregnancy veto on the weekend idea (I think she'd be ok with it though provided I can find cheap accomodation).

I can play/bring:
WHF
40k (I'm not keen on this as I haven't spent any money on new edition gimmicks).
Malifaux
Dreadball
Kings of War
Dominion
Talisman
Chaos in the Old World
Battlestar Galactica
Dwarf King's Hold
Project Pandora (sort of as currently unassembled)
Doom of the Eldar
Battle for Armageddon/Chaos Attacks
Horus Heresy (+bonus WD end game)
Space Crusade
Heroquest
Warhammer Quest (maybe, in my parents loft atm)

Yeah, why not. If we make it a weekend people can do 1 day if needed.

When are we looking? I'm busy for the next 6-8 weeks or so with a house move looming...

Stuff what I like to play:
Blood bowl (need to make a team, but can proxy/borrow I expect)
Aeronautica
Dominion
A Game of Thrones the Card Game

Stuff what I would like to play:
Infinity
Malifaux (2.0)
Dust
Dreadball
X Wing
A Game of Thrones the Board Game
Actually, pretty much anything by FFG

Where will we be holding this?
Membership wise - Birmingham seems the logical place.
If the NE boys are coming then Mansfield looks good again - there is a new venue not too far from Maelstrom, can't remember what it's called though - or that place in Notts that keeps popping up (Warstore?)...

Some 6th ed n00b 40K is possible

Any of the Mantic games
I'll probably have Storm the Castle by then too

What about dates?

Are we looking at this or early next year?

Unfortunately the 2nd one :( ;) 14 weeks today.

I'm not sure dates is a huge deal for me in general other than before November or probably after February.

I probably can't make it this side of Christmas with other stuff already booked up. How about we look at a whole weekend in March next year? That gives people plenty of time to book it in work/family calendars.

Well Stunty doesn't visit here anymore, and we've learnt not to trust Nige, I would now health wise class myself on nigh on to nige like reliability terms, so that leaves a kind of Spack (probably working) Matt (probably selling mantic somewhere.. but if your all spamming mantic maybe he can write it off  ) Ljundhammer (moving house).

should we approach this thing in notts city centre?

Is anyone here still around from the birmingham club or did they all leave after the rather disapointing last meet? (as brum is also quite central).

Chaos in the Old World
I'm in, but I do see them as pub games, like apocolypse where it doesn't matter if someone wanders off to play pinball for 40 minutes.. so would depend on the setting. (CiOW actually needs a fair chunk more attention, its just a similarlarly fairly long time frame)
Baragash wrote: Space Crusade
Heroquest
I humongously suggest space crusade OVER heroquest.. one is a lessor version of the other (unless your talking about bringing the emminenatly stealable £300 expansions), we can include minis we have etc etc.. I'm up for space crusade(preferably with jervis johnoson orks and termies addons) like a shot.

I could probably throw down a noob game of kings of war.

I would love to have a semi drunken evening playing some form of arkham horror board game thingy.. but I don't have it..

I can throw in seaside and intrigue for dominion,

models for space hulk (we suggested a while back doing a giant spacehulk with multiple teams and multiple DMs)..I lack (legit) board pieces.(I can bring a suitcase of 80 genestealers)

Dreadball and malifuax-depends on how much me and Lh pick up between now and whenever.

Can throw in a bloodbowl table and a couple of teams,

Hopefully I'll have command and colours-battlelore-battle for westeros up and running by then..but its just 2 player and runtime on box says 2 hours.(hundreds of counters and flag banners)

I could play 40k but frankly I think I'm the only person who'll turn up who still plays it with a smile here. So why even pretend it will be on offer, with all the 40k dribbling hate we might get more venues open to us not playing it.

Ljundhammer wrote:A Game of Thrones the Board Game..
Whilst it gets good reviews, its length and bookkeeping is the anti LH..Check out this picture.. Top left 3 tables are for which person starts which phase in which order.. the others are various victory contions etc etc.. I enjoyed it.. but only because i was drunk and it was a bit like that game where you had to bid for fruit to win greece.

I would really like to try Arkham Horror as well, but I don't own it either.

A friend has got them, inc the yellow sign expansions, but borrowing it is out. If we get a firm date I might try and invite him (although more to sell you his awesome games systems than just to bring a game we don't have).. he's currently alpha'ing a tabletop game.

You can have my 2nd ed cthululhuhuhu box set and do it proper-like.
I'm still happy with 40k if I can get there.
