I’ve got a bunch of bloodbowl (LH) and
40k batreps (viper,Sparky and mR6)sat on the shelf but they can go elsewhere. (+ infinitum of random board game in one sentence reviews-stunty has been buying basically my wishlist, summoner wars, small world, etc etc and james has been buying loads of fluffy and kids stuff.. dats my fish..FFG card games etc)
For now,following on from here
anything-goes/x-wing-miniatures-game-t6673.htmlDum dum dum dum didum dum didum..
Stunty was playing the soundtracks through his phone throughout.
Ok let see, Stunty turned up at mine, as did LH.. LH is still on a nothing to do with 40k ever ever again.. so I broached my Xwing box (note all photos are from 2 starter boxed sets put together.. which seems to be how most people start off).
1 Guy has a noob tie fighter and a master ninja tiefighter (the beast)
1 Guy has 2 regular tie fighters
These guys work as a team in the you go I go system it can split V easily for multiple players.
1 guy has Biggs(Tank) and luke (big on defence..now I think of it not a great combo).. 2 named X wings.
This is a points balance..although based on what we saw more cheaper stuff work exceedingly well.
The game is full of necessity for
fresh pots(although unlike the rather humourous david grohl take on coffee addiction, I mean vast numbers of fiddly pots to store it in.. and I've temporarily run out..I'm going to home bargains to sort that on wednesday.. need a 15th 30 compartment mini bits holder..gah)
Here is the table spread.
We didn't play to the missions, and although I'm working on papercraft stuff (basically porting in the ridiculously expensive FW game that worked the same) we only used what was wysiwyg and out of the box for the evening.
We rotated around each of the 3 roles.
Battles were fast and furious and we managed 4-5 ish games.(7-11pm not counting setup or packup but thats with 2 people new to the game)
You can see in this pic how the tie fighters are swarming and blocking movement paths,
2 Tie fighters hit each other (DOH).. meaning they can't access actions (such as focus points for shields).. one is facing away from the x-wing (Green triangle is LOS arc) so isn't a threat.. the one pointing towards it is "the beast".. Luke has higher pilot skill so shoots first passed the blocking stupid tie to the beast taking it out. (models don't block LOS because magic 3d..rather lame excuse in book but mechanically very handy)
(pic below) We're going to houserule some kind of "I can't shake him!!" rule where by super manoeuvring skill like this TIE has shown you one extra red dice.. (as we believe the only reason its not there is so that the dice you have in your hand never exceed the number in the box) This was badd ass "darth cadet".. the cheapest guy in the game who'd taken out biggs and was just taking out luke (I was most proud.. until everyone else using him did exactly the same.. a blessed rookie if ever there was one)
We used a 3x3 with conventional setup.. this game we tweaked the power level a bit and got out a 5th tie from stuntys 3rd and 4th boxes.
this photo (below) was taken when LH and Stunty had an extra tie fighter and I had 2 astromechs.. the ability to tank wasn't as good as 5 tie fighters for poor old Biggs, he couldn't do any good back there..and so here we see poor me
chased across the board by 5 tie fighters, death is inevitable at this point.. low pilot skill move first (its a down side.) but here stunty has moved in front of me with his crap guy.. so I can't move penning me in so I can't shoot him and every one else is up my chuff... I am for want of a better word Ddddooooooooommmed.
NEXT step is painting a galactic starfield on the cloth using a toothbrush and stuff.. (not today maybe thursday)
