Kickstarter - WTF

Postby Ljundhammer » Tue Sep 03, 2013 1:25 pm

Ok, grizzelled veterans of Kickstarter - help me out with what you get in these things...

Let's take this as an example:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coo ... h-of-kings
And yes - I have been warned that CMoN are a bit rubbish!

If I pledge $200 (plus $40 P&P) what do I get?
At the moment the total received is just over $300k, so w'll go wuth that.

I think I get:
All 5 faction starters rulebooks etc - per $200 pledge
3/5 extra infantry per starter (more than swn in pictures) - per $75k stretch
Different posses for infantry models - per $100k, $125k, and $150k stretch
A dice bag (no cuddly toy though) - per $175k stretch
An extra leader model per faction starter - per $200k stretch
Nothing extra (monsters only - not in faction starters) - per $225k stretch
Another specialist model per starter - per $250k stretch
More infantry & another leader per faction starter - per 275k stretch
Yet another specialist to each faction starter - £300k stretch

Do you really get all that? That is tons of models... Am I missing something?

I saw on a CMON update (e-mail newsletter IIRC) that $200 = 199 models so my initial reaction is that sounds right. I was reading it a 6.15am this morning, but...actually I just checked, that's what it said!

More importantly, what's the lowest I can pledge to get a Twilight Knight? ;)

Only in that
a) peeps say cmon blah blah blah..
and
b) KMB says that stretch goals are the doom of our generation turning us all into automated sellobots..where to get that 1000 extra minis you have to peddle and spam your way around everyone you know worse than candycrush saga/facebook app.blah blah ranty ranty. After reaching base goals (cat A)they don't care.. you do.. at that point you are recruited to work for them to get more cat A buyers, who may become cat B buyers, who are invested to go out and get more cat A buyers.

But thats all been said before

Hmm, that's quite tasty then.

Lots of nice models in there to proxy/convert for other systems (working onm the basis that the rules are probably gash).

Ponders...

That's only anout £175 - that's not bad!

I hhave to agree - it seems like an excellent deal - and probably is! I backed the Deadzone kickstarter to the tune of $470 (approx £305). For that I am getting 180 miniatures rules and counters etc and 8 Battlezones. A battlezone is 8 3"x3" tiles that can be connected to make buildings, so thats 64 tiles. Enough to make a LOT of terrain.

Kickstarterscan give some great rewards, but you need to find the "sweet spot" for reward vs Cost. Usually that seems to be about £100 or so.

I backed the zombicide kickstarter, and got a ton of miniatures, extra dice, extra game tiles, all kinds of goodies.

For the price, it was well worth it. My kids and I have a great time playing the game.

I would have to be interested in the game or the game system to jump into a kickstarter project, but it seems overall to be a good deal.

Of course, caveat emptor always applies! ;)

I like this.
A kickstarter where I don't really want to get more than the basic levels.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/giantgoblingames/personalized-gaming-miniatures-of-you

I'd love to have a couple of personalised heads for various projects but apart from a single Larger scale head (for Inquisitor purposes) I really don't see any of the character figures I couldn't either scratch build or use very close alternatives cheaper from other companies.
Nice to be able to get just the bits i'd be after.

Well, the Mars attacks KS went live - and hit it's $50K target in just 16 (yes SIXTEEN) minutes! The first Stretch goal has already been hit too! Looks like a pretty good game - very similar to Deadzone it seems. The figures look good too. If only I had $100 . . .

Any one want a Beastman army? :D

Ok, 404 has been backed by me!

The beginning of a slippery slope...

And just to bring it to anyone's attention who may be interested, a new small gaming company called Mantic has a new game coming out - Mars Attacks!

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/174 ... ?ref=users

It doesn't seem to get much pushing from people on the web...

Sorry KMB.

Would you like a game of Dreadball to make up for it?
