I've got the compendium and WD 104 - there are no Desert Lions in either from what I can see. WD104 only has 1 40k article - about Imperial Robots. If you meant WD101, the Badab uprising with the 2 page colour spread showing colour schemes for the chapters involved, there are no Desert Lions there either.

As noted in the footnotes at http://www.ironhands.com/chapters.htm , the Desert Lions have only ever been mentioned by name - unfortunately it doesn't say where though.

UPDATE: from http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Desert_Lions I found a reference to the Imperial Robots section. There is no picture, just this "When the Desert Lions took the planet's defence forts they were preceeded by a complete Legion Cohort of Robots". There is one paragraph with that line, plus a mention that only seven marines were lost in the assault. No pictures, no descriptions, just a name.

I picture them with a medium brown armour (Snakebite Leather or Kommando Khaki) and a light beige trim (Bleached Bone) with the light beige used for a lion's head chapter badge and also use it for Veteran helmets. Maybe Bestial Brown for Assault Squad helmets and Chaos Black for Devastators' helmets?

What do you think?

Do you know what type of desert camo you want?
There is the US style, UK style, Old Gulf War (Cookie Chip) style. We can better give colors if you tell us more what you would like.

For vehicles, Tamiya has a nice desert kit for painting up modern vehicles. Don't forget to sandblast your tanks to show the weathering from sandstorms.

I read that as desert loins - I thought you were looking for a Slanneshi cult...

Could be worse - it could have been Dessert Loins ...

There are several chapters which share the same symbol, with different colours.

Are you thinking of using the same colours white background with a red lion rampant (Argent, a lion rampant Gules)? It might look ok, but it will depend upon the colour of the armour. Personally, I don't really like red on a white background; though, I don't know why. No real reason.

Im doing two desert colours, one for main body, darker one for trim and pads, red lion on shoulder, no white :)

That could work well. Just make sure that the red isn't too orange, or you will have a mono-chromatic colour scheme, and your marines won't really "pop".
