I use airbrush ready paints myself.

However look on the net and you will find recipes for spraying all the major paint brands, and what thinners to use (I use Tamiya thinners).

Other than that, it really is trial and error and getting used to the very fine layers you can put down.

You'll hear or read a lot of people say thin to the consistency of milk without really explaining more. What they mean is when you swish milk in a clear glass and you see the residue on the sides... It's that level of opacity that is required in your paint. It'll be really awkward at first but you'll soon get used to it. I'd recommend learning how to thin paint for air brushing even if you are going to use ready thinned stuff as I thin that even. I've used airbrush thinners and water and find little difference other than dry times, but I'm doing all the fancy stuff with it yet. I need a better brush for that!

Cool it looks nice and smooth. Have a good look for tutorials on pre-shading and zenithal highlighting on youtube for ideas on how you can use an airbrush to improve base layers (beyond awesomely smooth). I'm yet to try this on an army wide scale my self, but I'm looking into it for new BA units.

It's really easy to practice as well all my Tau tanks have pre-shaded panels on the primer layer as I knew the top coats would eventually hide it all it was a pointless step for the finish of the tanks but was invaluable practice. I used Zenithal highlighting on my Inquisitor scale Deathwatch Marine..... That how I know I really need a better air brush to really pull off the effect.
