ATA Works Stormtrooper Helmet Kit Build

ATA Works Stormtrooper Helmet Kit Build

Postby Spack » Sat May 02, 2015 10:04 am

I've just had confirmation that my latest project has been despatched from Miami and is on its way to me. Might be a couple of weeks before it arrives, but that will give me a chance to pick up the appropriate paints and watch plenty of build videos to try to make sure I don't mess up the kit.

Will post pics when it arrives, but for now I'll leave a little teaser. Move along, there's one set for stun, look sir droids.

He could get Barneys suit, it is cheap but the amount of disinfectant needed to make it safe is astronomic!

I think I'd need to lose a little weight before I could get into a suit. Also a lot of work to build, or very expensive for a pre built suit. There is a company doing a special price if $350 on a full suit kit if ordered by Monday, but I don't have that much to spare and the suit wouldn't ship Tull the end if the year.

I do however have an ATA Works ABS stormtrooper stunt helmet kit on the way. When it arrives I'll post up a build blog. Been wanting to get a helmet since I was a kid, finally decided to get one and hopefully picked up a decent one for a good price.

Chicago? I hope you have a smuggler in a fast ship to get it past Elliot Ness.

Yesterday I popped into my local Hobby Craft store to buy the correct Humbrol paints (all the local model shops have gone out of business, so no other shops carry Humbrol paints :( ) and found that both #85 Coal Black (vocoder, mics, traps/tears lining) and #14 French Blue (tube stripes) were out of stock (and no other colours were), I suspect there could be a large number of Stormtroopers in the area 8O Have ordered the required paints online from Wonderland Models (used them before for Tamiya paints, very quick delivery and cheap) along with various tools ready for the build, now just need the helmet - which is currently sat at O'Hare International airport in Chicago according to USPS. Hopefully it'll arrive later this week, assuming customs don't hold onto it for a while.

First package for this build has arrived, unfortunately not the helmet though (looks to be stuck in customs at Heathrow for 2 days, probably going to be there a while knowing my luck).

Also ended up ordering a foam pad and elastic straps that match the original movie versions, as well as a vinyl template for the tube stripes, all from Trooperbay the US. Should now have everything I need to build the helmet true to the original movie version.

EDIT: Woo, just got email confirmation that the helmet kit has been processed through Heathrow, hopefully I'll have it in hand Monday or Tuesday. The Trooperbay order hasn't left the US yet though.
