It's been 7 years since I boxed all my
40k collection up in the attic, but this week I pulled out the Forge World Gorgon transport kit to put together. I bought this from a site member, and local club member, about 8 years ago. The cab had been glued together, and the armour plating on the gun positions was fragile and broken, but otherwise the kit was complete.
I started by trying to remove the cab roof intact, but it was glued in too firmly and the roof piece snapped. It will be easy to glue back in position and should be an invisible fix. Having the roof off will allow me to paint the driver, and I also found that the arms for one of the gunners had been used on the driver instead of the ones with the control levers do these will be swapped for the correct ones.
The hull areas where the tracks fit needed heavily modding with a Dremel cutting bit as the tracks would not fit into them. Made a huge mess, but at least I could then get the tracks in the right place.
Took a few hours of dry fit, trim, repeat, to get the hull to sit square enough that the front ramp would sit right. Quite a few parts were waited and needed some coaxing to fit correctly. Ended up using some sash clamps to hold it together while the E6000 glue dried as I couldn't find my trigger clamps.
The gunners were glued to the heavy stubbers, and the curved upper armour and ammo belts attached. These will be left loose from the gun platforms for painting. The searchlight rails are also loose, and will be glued onto place when the roof is refitted.
The majority of the build is complete, just the sponsons need fitting. I may magnetise the weapons so they can be swapped out if necessary, the kit comes with stubbers, bolters, and flamers.
